Soul**, to answer your question properly, a bit more info is needed. Levelling up is normally achieved by going through the story line missions in single player, and after the missions are finished, by increasing your net worth.

On multi-player, you just need to increase your net worth to gain levels, (by trading or doing bar missions).

Hope this helps

By the way, there is a new topic for this kind of question, as this thread is getting to long. Its called Newbie Questions 2 or something.

Soul - to changeyour level - cheat to get more money, or the really dumb way if you are in missions is to change the actual amount of money needed to level up... i personally suggest that you don't do this, but if your interested, its the ptough.ini file inside the missions folder. It looks like this:
Example:
[PlayerToughnessScale
ptough_graph_pt = 0, 0
ptough_graph_pt = 11000, 1
ptough_graph_pt = 13750, 2
ptough_graph_pt = 17228, 3
ptough_graph_pt = 20845, 4
ptough_graph_pt = 25396, 5
ptough_graph_pt = 30475, 6
ptough_graph_pt = 36576, 7
ptough_graph_pt = 43891, 8
ptough_graph_pt = 52183, 9
ptough_graph_pt = 58967, 10
ptough_graph_pt = 66632, 11
ptough_graph_pt = 74156, 12
ptough_graph_pt = 88245, 13
ptough_graph_pt = 105206, 14
ptough_graph_pt = 114780, 15
ptough_graph_pt = 125225, 16
ptough_graph_pt = 136620, 17
ptough_graph_pt = 149154, 18
ptough_graph_pt = 177493, 19
ptough_graph_pt = 211397, 20
ptough_graph_pt = 245220, 21
ptough_graph_pt = 285906, 22
ptough_graph_pt = 328791, 23
ptough_graph_pt = 378331, 24
ptough_graph_pt = 433189, 25
ptough_graph_pt = 495823, 26
ptough_graph_pt = 565734, 27
ptough_graph_pt = 646965, 28
ptough_graph_pt = 738187, 29
ptough_graph_pt = 842492, 30
ptough_graph_pt = 961283, 31
ptough_graph_pt = 1096101, 32
ptough_graph_pt = 1250652, 33
ptough_graph_pt = 1425449, 34
ptough_graph_pt = 1626438, 35
ptough_graph_pt = 1853394, 36
ptough_graph_pt = 2112870, 37
ptough_graph_pt = 2409599, 38

reading this you get that for level 38 you require 2 million, four hundred and nine thousand, five hundred and ninety nine to get level 38. For level 0 you need nothing, but for level 1 you need to be worth eleven thousand. Now, if you wish you can decrease all these levels down a bit, so that you need to be worth less for each level to be attained. Also - out of interest, if you wish you can increase the amount of levels you can have as well in here. Just add extra lines for 39, 40, 41 etc etc as far as you can be arsed. Mine personally goes up to 60 - cause after that i get bored of SP and its time to start a new mod! LOL

Other method, change the level necessary for you to buy a ship? go into the marketships.ini file inside the equipment folder instead. There you will see stuff like this:
Example:
marketgood = gf1_package, 0, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = gf2_package, 4, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = gf4_package, 13, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = gf5_package, 24, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1

The first number after the main text is the level required to buy the ship - ie, for marketgood = gf1_package you need ot be level 0 (that is the starflier)
but for the falcon - which is marketgood = gf5_package - you need to be level 24, likewise the hawk which is package 4 is level 13 to buy. Change those - but beware, there are ALOT of ships in here. The trick is that each ship is listed for every base possible that deals with ships, however, not all of them are for sale are they? No - look for those numbers to look like this
-1, 1, 1, 0, 1, 1
As that sequence means its for sale, whereas the ones above means it isn't for sale. Max three ships at any base.

Now, if you require more, i suggest you use the other thread, Newbie questiosn look no further 2 - and at the front is like an index to topics covered in this thread. Also - the new thread consists of some nice little touches if you are bored of SP and what to change it a bit, like regen NPC shields.

Hope that helps - post if you need more

How to add a new ship to Manhattan (Li01), just to let people have a hang of it:

Step 1:

Download INI Uncompressor, and uncompress the following file:

market_ships

Step 2:

Go to Li01
You will see a list like this:

ps: i have taken away all the numbers, that enabled the ships: Startracker, Patriot and Rhino.

[BaseGood
base = Li01_01_base
marketgood = gf1_package, 0, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = gf2_package, 4, -1, 0, 0, 0, 1, 1
marketgood = gf4_package, 13, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = gf5_package, 24, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = gf6_package, 30, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = bwf_package, 4, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = bwe_package, 20, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = bwe2_package, 30, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = bwfr_package, 10, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = cof_package, 8, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = coe_package, 28, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = coe2_package, 32, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = lf_package, 1, -1, 0, 0, 0, 1, 1
marketgood = le_package, 2, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = lfr_package, 1, -1, 0, 0, 0, 1, 1
marketgood = bf_package, 6, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = be_package, 8, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = bfr_package, 4, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = kf_package, 10, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = ke_package, 13, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = kfr_package, 10, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = rf_package, 20, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = re_package, 22, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = rfr_package, 1, -1, 1, 1, 0, 1, 1
marketgood = pf_package, 2, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = pe_package, 13, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = pfr_package, 4, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = bhf_package, 1, -1, 1, 1, 0, 1, 1
marketgood = bhe_package, 13, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
marketgood = bhe2_package, 1, -1, 1, 1, 0, 1, 1
marketgood = oe_package, 16, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1

The first leters, before _package, indicates wich ship it is:

Example:
rfr = Rheinland FReighter
lf = Liberty Fighter

* The first number is the required level to buy the ship.
* Second number is ???
* If you want to make a ship buyable change the following two numbers to 1 and the third to 0 (but only 3 ships can be bought).
* The last number is the most exiting one, its the price!
Heres an example, my Anubis only cost 1 credit:

marketgood = oe_package, 1, -1, 1, 1, 0, 1, 1

That's it! Now load a new game, (sorry guys), and claim your ship.

Well - use FLED IDS and punch in the numbers from 261795, it should free unless you have used it for something else. This is in the nameresource.dll file in the exe folder that we are using. You find that from their upwards in that dll it is empty for a quite a way if i remember right, i think for several hundred at least - i know youcan get to 262000 anyways. So use those numbers for the ids name for things - ie, these numbers are free
261795
261796
261979
261798
261799
261800
261801
261802
261803
261804
261805
261806
261807
261808
261809
and keep on gonig like that for another hundred. You'll pick it up nice and quick. Sometimes what seems to be empty is just as the game uses non-existant names, and others there genuinely is space at the end of the dll files for more info. Its just how patient at punching in numbers you are willing to be!

Enjoy

*edit* - mommy i found the last one - its 262143 - so that means you should have from number 261795 to number 262143 free in the name resources.dll - that is three hundred and forty eight numbers to have a go at. Shame i only have 9 left Stupid large mods.

Erm - just to amend your post about ships there, thanks for the post however - to fill in a gap, and also ammend things:
Exmaple:
marketgood = brbat_package, 38, 1, 1, 1, 0, 1, 1

Erm- you won't have this ship, its my own custom little baby called the bretonian battleship.

38 is the level required - like i said before, if you add more levels then you can increase this number up to whatever your levels reach.
Second number is the REPUTATION to buy the ship at that base, so if the base is a bretonian police base, you would have to be bloody friendly to buy from mine! Its set to -1 typically, this means you can buy a ship if you can land at the base (ie, if you could land when hostile, you could still buy!)
The next four numbers are to do with whether it buys or sells, so

1, 1, 0, 1, means this ship is for sale

0, 0, 1, 1 means that it isn't

The last number is NOT the price, that is defined in the goods.ini file - and is under a package known as the hull.
The last number is ACTUALLY the money mulitplier. They are all set to one, as this means that it sells at the price in the goods.ini . IF this value was 2, then it would sell for TWICE the price of the goods value of the ship. I haven't tried plonking it down to 0 yet, as i don't want free ships - but technically you could, but then again - you might crash instead. Now that is how i made both weapons and ships sale at different prices around sirius.

Enjoy

oops - one last thing, no need to load a new game, continue with the old one and your new ship is there as well

I have searched and looked and have missed all info on finding hardpoints for excisting ships. Like all hardpoints for the sabre. As i would like too change some of the hardpoints to accept other equipment. Such as another thruster, and two more turrets. Yes i know i should look harder. But can you please point me in the right direction. Please keep in mind that im THICK. So be specific. Thank You

hi there!

i am a newbie at modding and i'd like to add engine trails
to the players ship but i don't know how

can anybody help me PLEASE????

Post Fri Oct 24, 2003 10:15 pm

Ok i found how too and have been changing hardpoints. Still have'nt figured out how to add or edit a hardpoint to make another thruster. Does anyone know if you can have 2 thrusters and does it double the speed you can thrust?

If you did'nt want friendly fire, You should'nt of have got in my way.

Post Sat Oct 25, 2003 4:11 am

Ok. I have been fart arsing around for awill now and i'm getting the hang of this
A few questions and a did you know.
I have a Sabre very heavy fighter
With 6 guns (Original)
3 Turrets lvl 10
3 Torpedo's
I have the shield on the cloak hardpoint. Removed the mine and countermeasure hardpoints. Which leaves 3 hardpoints that you can see. Now 1 of them is the original hardpoint for the shield. the other 2 are under the top wing 1 either side of the fusalage(?) Q.What are they called and where are they on the tree on utf editor or are have they not been written in and if not does anybody know what the position and orientation?

Q.What is a contrail there are 4 of them on a sabre?

Q.What do the letter's mean on shields sentry L.F.
sentry F.R.
sentry H.F.
Q.And lastly how do you get (whatever it is) to allow 2 thrusters?
i can get it to show on freelancer when you are buying thrusters but it won't allow me to buy one for the second hardpoint.

Oh yeh! did you know the link to this forum is broken. I've been going to editing and clicking a link to get here.

I am an idiot and i dont have a clue what to do in anything but i really want to be able to make mods for basic things like a new planet/station or just some kind of introduction about anything to get me started. Someone Help!!!

Trail.

Sometimes i can type for hours on how to do things, but for now it would take a long long time to explain how it works exactly. Here is a breif run down though!

The game runs off of a game engine. however, it gets the info to make things from data files - ie like stations, planets etc etc.

Now - these data files will contain stuff like references for certain other 'picture' files. They aren't really pictures, but its easy to call them that. Basically -there are several types - sur, mat, cmp and others too.
The sur files define the surface of things, which means you can 'collide' with them. The CMP files will define the points on the object where we can mount things from a basic prospective - but they contain alot more than that in reality. They also tell it where meshes, mats and other things will all go etc.

The mat file is the graphic part - like the colour etc etc.

Now - to reference all these to give an object an appearance, it is done in some files. For stations and planets - its in something called the solararch.ini files. This will correlate the data of where these MAT files, CMP files and SUR files are located to help the game find them quick.

This means that rather than reference those three/four files each time you use something in every system file for the game, you can enter just one line to reference it too a file that contains all the info necessary. It is just neater that way - and alot less complicated!.

That is what we do when adding objects to systems - like putting in new planets and bases etc. We just add a line that lets it know to look for the info prestated in another file - the solararch.ini file.

This means that adding planets and bases is as easy as pie. If it wasn't for this, it could be alot more complicated.

So - making new bases that way is easy, if you actually made brand new bases and planets - it would be so so much more difficult. for one, you would need all those new files - and as of yet we cannot even make sur files.

So - enough of that , where is the interesting stuff eh?

Okay - lets look

To add something to a file - we need to make sure we get the right file. For systems - its the system file FOR THAT SYSTEM. This is the fun bit.

Inside the data folder, there is a universe folder. Inside of their you will find systems folders - promising eh?
now - there are lots of folders - this is becuase they use nicknames.
So - Li is liberty
Ku is Kusari
Br is Bretonia
and Rh is Rheinland

now - you notice they have numbers too eh? That is becuase it makes it even easier as well. 01 is the first system (usually the capital system).
So -
Li01 is New York system
Li02 is Los Angeles system
Li03 is Colorado

Rh01 is New Berlin
Rh04 is Frankfurt

Br01 Is New london
Br04 Is Leeds

Ku01 is New tokyo
Ku04 is Honshu

Bw05 is Sigma 13

Hi01 is Omicron Alpha
Hi02 is Omicron Gamma

You see the nickname method? ALot shorter. Also - easy to cross reference for things like jumpgates (where from and too).

I suggest you get the Miscillaneous Freelancer Database by SuBXeRo from the downloads section. It is very helpful for this - it tells you what they all are!
Now - when you go to the li01 folder - it contains all the info for the New York system.
li01.ini - this file contains all the info about what is in new york system. everything!

Now then - use BiniQDU to decrypt the ini file into a text file (li10.ini.txt) so that you can 'read' it. Now - stuff saying [object -(Notice there SHOULD be a closing square bracket here), means that an object is described below it - like a station or planet etc.

So - here is manhatten in this:

[Object
nickname = Li01_01
ids_name = 196766
pos = -33270, 0, -33039
rotate = 0, -10, -10
ambient_color = 255, 0, 0
Archetype = planet_earthgrncld_4000
ids_info = 65759
spin = 0, 0.00100, 0
atmosphere_range = 4200
burn_color = 160, 222, 245
base = Li01_01_Base
reputation = li_p_grp
visit = 1

You notice the lines for this though? well - they are for different things. THe nickname is for the computer games use - it has NOTHING to do with the ingame name. That is the ids_name and ids_info entries. So the nickname is unique in each system. It just 'identifies' this object if it was referred too (hence it needs to be unique). The position defines where the heck in space it is - like the quadrant that is contained within.

Anyways - the reputation is for the group

I will finish this off later - i have to run to the shops right now Arrgghhh
