"Finding" Jump Holes

Hi,

I just got the game and am playing through it for the first time. I am trying to avoid reading any spoilers until after I finished it the first time so I am posting my question here.

My question is about "finding" jump holes. How exactly do you "find" them? I have run across a couple of them already, but when I look at my personal information screen, it lists as having found 0.

Do I actually need to fly through them to have them marked as "found?"

Thanks in advance for any help!

Well as far as I know, as long as you can see the swirling red/blue or green etc. of a jumphole you have found it. I don't think you have to fly through them. Enjoy exploring the Sirius System. It's what I enjoyed about the game the most. That and pirating on MP

Hope this helps

Actually, I think most of them (not all for some odd reason) require you to enter them to log them. Sort of like you have to land on a base to know what merchandise it deals with.

Hi, me again.

Thanks for the replies.

I have been chased out of Liberty for being too good looking and am now in Bretonian space. I've upgraded my ship from the Defender to the fish looking Crusader. After flying around causing general mayhem and chaos, I am on my to meet with Juni in Cambridge.

To this date, I have found 8 Jump Holes. However, when I view my Info, it says I only found 4 so far.

I would love to hear more of your thoughts on this.

Thank you in advance!

Ah, during the storyline its slightly different from usual....
If you go to some that you find, and try to go through them, you may not be able to do so. The game 'locks' certain gates, to prevent you from going somewhere it doesn't want you to go - which you saw with the 'cannot leave New York until you got jumpgate access.

Ah, oki. That makes sense. Kind of an odd way of doing things though.

Thank you much!

Snuffleupagus:
Also if your looking for jumpholes you can open your navmap and swich it to patrol routes . If you see a bunch of illigal patrol routes meet (by illegal I mean a pirate faction like the Mollys) at a specific point you can almost know that there is a base or jump hole there.

Hey thanks for the tip Kal Tath. I had completely forgotten about the "patrol path" maps. I had been flying around aimlessly looking for jump holes (To date, I've found 104). But I couldn't find some of them or some bases I knew were in the system. Now I'm going to go find Alkatraz! :-)

Oh cool!

Thanks for that great tip, Tal kath Naabal!

I have been zigzagging back and forth across the star systems to try and find those things. It is getting really boring having to kill baddies attacking me as I zigzag around, expecially since I am not getting paid to kill them through a mission.

Actually Tal, that doesn't always work. I just spent about an hour and a half tracing the hostil patrol paths through California. I found the Cortez jump hole, but no Alkatraz. I finally cheated and loaded my son's game and got the coordinates from his map. :-(
And Buffalo Base in Liberty isn't on the hostil patrol path either, but it's at a big intersection on the friendly patrol path map. So it seems the good guys patrol the bad guys bases and vice versa. Or do I have this backwards?...

It depends who your allied with, because if your friendly with the the paths be green and so on. For me Kyoto base lies on a huge intersection of green because I'm still allied with the Blood Dragons.

Hope it helps.

Although if you're playing online, all patrol paths and areas on the political map show up as neutral, no matter who you're allied with or hostile to.

if u want find jump holes, open your nav map, switch to pathrol path map, it'll show u the patrols of ur enemies, ur neutral factions and ur ally factions, switch any of them and look for lines. If lines(at least 3) meet together or finish at same places, go and look there. U will possibly find a base , or a jump hole(u will find many things but they r mostly often found). or pay people at bars to get infos , they are giving infos of different things, maybe jump hole places for u.

...for your information Ageira recommends not to come in any contact with Jumpholes at all...

I wonder why?

Unless the jumphole is the one in the Omicron Gamma Unknown system, in which case it's "Valhalla Research and Monument Engineering advise avoiding all contact with jump holes". Evidently flotsam from a previous production version.
