c'mon warzog, when's it going to be. I'm chewing my goddam fingernails here! I have sum serious cat killing to do!

Post Tue Oct 19, 2004 4:00 pm

There's a feature I'm trying to add, that is very time consuming.
And...
I've still been having problems with my DUN.
The phone company had to come out and change the wires in the ground.

Update:
Attention all personnel:
The "Privateer The Reckoning OpenSP Beta v4.0" mod is available on our FTP site.
Anyone with access is requested to download it, and test it.
It WILL NOT BE RELEASED TO THE PUBLIC UNTIL IT'S BEEN TESTED!
(Understand, Bob?)

One important note:
The New Bases will cause a CTD if you're not using DirectX 9.0b!
(I haven't tested it on DirectX 9.0, but DirectX 8.0 CTD's every time!)

In the mean time, I'm still tweaking a few minor things.

Sidenote:
Finally found out why me and Windows XP don't get along.
My computer's manufacturer included files/drivers for Windows 98SE/ME/2000.
(Most, if not all, are incompatible with Windows XP)
So...
I've got to download new files to repair.

May explain some of the wierd CTD's people got on older versions of the mod!

Downloading to test!

How is everything going anyway... texturewise.

I am glad to see the FTP is back up and running now. If you still need textures of those ships, let me know which ones still, and who i can get in touch with to get some meshes for the models. The screencaps someone took of the other models were not usable because they were from angles that I couldnt use. I tried explaining that to whomever it was that did them, and they didn't understand.

If I am going to produce any decent texture, i need perfect top-down screencaps of the mesh, possibly from the sides and bottom as well.

Perry naval base disappears when you look at it from certain angles up close.

Also, upon docking, I had a CTD.

I am using directx 9.0b with windows SP2.

So far warzog, this is a wet dream

EDIT: I am flying around some more-- gotta say congrats on getting New Constantintople working!! This is truely amazing. No crash to desktop.

EDIT 2: Just tried to play a server game with this patch. I setup a server locally and connected to it. But when I went to enter a character name, it told me "There is already a character registered with that name." But in fact there wasn't. I would try making a character called x91980412ssbbbbb for example, and it would still tell me there is already a character by that name.

There could be several reasons for this: Before playing on the server I used FLSoperator to delete all accounts. I then used the FLServer program to delete the accounts again.. I did this initially thinking that having accounts with invalid equipment would crash the server. So who knows.

Tawakalna:
I've got an HP Pavilion a465w.
One of the main problems is the DVD RW drive.
It's a Ricoh MP5240A drive, and the drivers aren't available to the US.

lvxoccvlta:
My big problem is getting the textures applied!
The Paradigm only has half of it's textures.
Same with the Bearcat.
Can't use either.

Quixotal:
I don't know.
Unless Bob McDob, or one of the others gave it to you.
lvxoccvlta and Havoc are the only one I gave it to.

lvxoccvlta:
See if reinstalling helps with Perry.
Or check DirectX's settings.
I've heard that SP2 can cause problems, but I don't have it, so I can't check.
As to the disappearing, that's normal for added bases, sorry.

As to the MP issues...
Try deleting the "NewCharacter.ini" in the character folder...
or the "mpnewcharacter.fl" file in the EXE folder...
(It's probably the "NewCharacter.ini" file.)

Also, if you spot any other CTD's besides Perry, please report the system, base, etc that they occur.
Keeping the contact list open when flying will help spot ships causing CTDs.)
Next time you attempt Perry, and get a CTD, read the "FLspew.txt" file.
(See if it reports a DirectX error. It probably will.)
And verify that the Demon ship is visible.
(The mercs fly it.)

The disappearing is due to the collision "box" being too small. Is this the elusive SUR file that is hard to change?

Also, perry doesnt CTD any more, but i didnt do anything to FL. Just a fluke I guess.

Also, what do you mean by only "half" the textures? I supplied textures for the top and bottom of the ships!

Some more points that i want to nitpick for future reference *and a more kick ass mod!*:

Change jump holes from Green color to blue. This matches the jump sequence AND how privateer originally had blue jump clouds. Would it be cool to add a jump "beacon" of sorts too?

LOTS of debris! Sometimes too much.

THe green star is used a lot.

I havent seen any retros at all. are they around? I havent flown everywhere, but just want to make sure this is going okay. I see lots of pirates though, they come in 3's all the time with an orion and two talons.

ANd still-- AWESOME JOB WARZOG. This is most impressive. this really captures the mood of privateer! I know it was brought up before, but with good texturing can we change the background skybox? I know some excellent photoshop sites that show how to make neat starscapes.

"The disappearing is due to the collision "box" being too small. Is this the elusive SUR file that is hard to change?"
Yepper!
That's it!
Perhaps???
Maybe, if I used one of the Dyson SUR files?
But...
They're not dockable, so I don't think that I can use them.
I'll check it out.

You may have provided all of the textures, but the versions I have are missing them in places.
Not your fault.
I'm not sure why it's happening, and neither is Bob.

Can't change the Green Jumpholes to blue.
They only come in White, Red, Orange, Green, and Rainbow colors.
They're controlled by TXM files, whatever those are.

As to the Starscapes...
I used the same one over, and over, just to speed things up.
Besides, I wasn't sure that the whole idea would work.
I'd love to have some Unique Starscapes.
But someone's gonna have to make them, and create 3DF & MAT files for each one.

As to the green suns...
Look at the Gemini Sector map...
The one with the systems, and jumplanes on it.
What color(s) are the stars?
I tried to get the suns in each system to match the ones on the map.
There's Green, Red, Blue, Yellow, Orange, White, etc.
Well...
Anyway...
That's the reason.

"LOTS of debris! Sometimes too much."
When I started making this version, I noticed that without Freelancer's tradelanes, there was no real feeling of movement.
It was like you just sat there, and if you waited long enough, eventually things got bigger.
So...
In the first few systems I did, I added debris.
(Mainly the Clarke and Potter Quadrants.)
Then I noticed that it was becoming a bit much...
So, I switched to using dust(s) to convey movement.
About 90% of the Debris-Filled systems are in the Clarke Quadrant.
(To show the Kilrathi's constant attacks in the Sector.)
There are 7 in Clarke, 2 in the Potter Quadrant, 1 in Humboldt, and there aren't any in the Fariss Quadrant.

The Retros have bases in the 17-AR, Famine, Varnus, Gemini, ND-57, and DN-N1912 systems.
That's where you'll find them concentrated.
If you hang around long enough, they eventually show up in most of the systems.

The Pirates are setup fairly closely to the way they were in Privateer.
(I just added them here and there to add life to otherwise dull systems.)

The Steltek are only in the Fariss Quadrant, and the Kilrathi are only in the Clarke Quadrant.
Ooops!
Almost forgot...
Both are in one of the Potter Pleasure Planet systems.
I think I put them in the Shangri La or DN-N1912 System, for the tourists to go up against.
(Fairly weak versions, but still tough.)

Ok, here is what I've found so far in the two systems I've visited:
1)Detroit - Militia in Bar indicate they are Bretonia police, Confed Col Patricia Spencer indicates she is with LSF

2) Jolson - When landing, the landing sequence jumps directly to the Bar

These are just minor problems

Mission to eliminate retros from the job board, was completed ok but I received no support as was indicated, had to fight off 8 ships alone (good thing I bought that isometal armor !)

I agree in regards to there being too much space debris...Especially so close to Detroit planet. Would be unrealistic in that it would present danger of debris entering planet gravity and crashing to earth, also present major traffic hazard to space ships coming and going from planet

I would say then that we have this mod almost licked.. ExcELLENT

I can bang out some spectacular backgrounds if someone has the balls to wallpaper them against the 3d meshes. Is anyone interested in helping?

I'll get to work anyway on the backgrounds.. ill let you knwo if i can find that awesome tutorial again.

Quixotal:
Can't prevent them from spouting the FL factions.
(I'd need new audio files to fix that.)
Privateers report as LSF, I'll check out the Colonel.
Most Landings jump to the bar, part of FL Explorer's doing.
Already decreased the amount of debris in New Detroit.

Related Sidenote:
After (Finally) getting a clean setup of Windows XP, I discovered that several of my backup CD/DVD's had been corrupted by the CD/DVD Burner that came with my computer.
I've been going through them to find out what files are salvagable.
Explains why BP complained about the compatibility of some of my files.
Everything appeared to work with HP's included version of XP, but not on an MSN Clean version.

Quixotal:
I just checked out Confederation Colonel Patricia Spencer with uncorrupt files, and she reports being with the Bretonia Armed Forces, which is correct.

I was afraid that the version on the ftp site might have some corrupted files.

I've also discovered a problem which may or may not be the result of a corrupt file.
FLspew.txt is reporting a problem with some base(s) having conflicting ID info.
(Unfortunately, it doesn't say which one(s).)
(Means that you'll CTD if you try to visit them.)
I'll need to sort it out before I upload a new copy.
