Privateer: The Reckoning MOD is ALIVE!

Here you can find news, get help and comment about the Privateer / Wing Commander Total Conversion called ?Privateer: The Reckoning? and accompanying Mods

Post Thu Jan 29, 2004 9:48 am

Again I say, I don't like open story mods. I personally only play games with stories, I never just trade or fight with no story, so I would disagree about removing the plot points.

@Warzog & Tolwyn, unless you're willing to offer several versions of the mod for those who do and do not like open story, just make your own decision.

GreyViper:
The rate of fire has changed in v1.07, but I've tried to keep it as close as possible to WC stats. I'll check it out.
The Dumbfires will get a boost in power, too.
I can increase the mission range, that may help. The ships aren't supposed to leave the mission area. Don't know why they did.

Tolwyn:
Morningstar works great! But the new Thunderbolt skin is invisible!

JokerPetaQ:
I know where to look for those problems. they're in the SolarArch.ini or the system files. Probably left bits and pieces of the old ships lying about. Thanx! I'll get those fixed.

Darkreaper:
Once I have it debugged better, and get more done. Converting it now may be a bit early, and cause more problems.

Sir Spectre:
There is a way to give the mod choices when loading it in FLMM. We might go that route. But, for now, the missions stay in.

Yay, you people are still alive! One thing anyone making modifications should know is that the manual Privateer loadouts aren't the same as the game ones. Waaaaay back when I was still working on this, I went to http://www.ugcs.caltech.edu/~hedgehog to get the ripped stats - I recommend it to anyone working on Privateer stuff.

Another excellent resource is tactics.solsector.net , probably the most accurate and researched general WC reference on the web.

As for the Galaxy, Stannum ([email protected]) planned to complete it along with the Orion and Tarsus, but that apparently ran into some stumbling blocks and we haven't heard from him in a while. If you want to get a look at the model, look here: http://www.wcnews.com/news/shownews.php?id=1362

Good job with everything,
Bob

Bob,
Great to hear from you again!
And thanx for the great info, should be very helpful!

Good to see you too

BTW, if you want, I can hook you up with the readme file from my old version of Reckoning. It's someone dated compared to current sources, but it provides the stats I used for some of the ships. Of course, they were horribly unbalanced in later versions (due mostly to experimenting with speed and maneuverabilty), but I like to think I did all right in other areas <G>

Sounds great!
Email it to me, but don't post it as an attachment.
My server is blocking all attachments due to a virus.
And use the subject Privateer, so that I'll look for it.

By the way, are the ships in this mod the same ones you used?
Know where I can get my hands on a Centurion?
I'm dying for one!

Edit:
If these aren't your ships, could we add yours to these?
(The more, the merrier!)

The Galaxy and the Centurion have already been created by Hellcat for his Vega Strike, see below photos. Perhaps you might want to find out if they're convertible to FL format and if he will let you use them. Here's the news story as it appeared on WC News.

Vega Strike CDs Available Online
Hellcat was happy to let us know that CDs of VegaStrike are now available to purchase at CafePress.

Vega Strike went gold last week and finally has become available to purchase online at cafepress.com. The Open Source Space simulator still is available for free at vegastrike.sourceforge.net however, many users were complaining about the size of the hefty 160 megabyte download, and some wanted a hard copy of the CD to admire.

So with the help of PeteyG's cover art, and Cafepress.com, we have fashioned a Vega Strike CD product there for $11.99. The CD features additional bonus features including the best songs from the game as CD audio tracks and mp3's on the CD as well as an optimized engine to eek out the fps on older machines. Details are also available at vegastrike.sf.net. Enjoy,
Daniel - AKA HellcatV

I'm drooling over the Galaxy, but I'm itching to use the Centurion!

Bob McDob mentioned Stannum doing a Galaxy too, here's his last known (at least by me) model pic of it.

I hope that isn't too many large pics on one page, but anyway it's worth a look!

well, there are a couple of issues there.

1. pics you show aren't from Vega Strike, but from a Wing Commander mod.
2. This are models created by Origin. There is no way we could legally use them. They are also quite high poly (around 25k).

I'll second the drool on those ships!

I've already emailed Stannum about his ships.

And I've asked Bob McDob, on the previous page, if we could use his, too.

I'm trying guys!
I want this MOD more than anyone!
I mean...
I only found out that FL could be MODed in late October.
So, I bought it the beginning of November!
And I've learned how to MOD just to do THIS mod!!!
I put out my 1st MOD IN NOVEMBER!!!
I put out my second on Christmas, and since then I've learned how to do Script!
I'm gonna make this happen, or die trying!!!

Hmmm...
Maybe I should rephrase that...
I am 52 after all.
(and my doctor thinks I'm playing with my computer to relax)
Fooled her!

Great!
Glad to have you on board Pani!

Update:
Eraser reminded me of the Rotating planets in Privateer, so I've got 'em going.
Later I'll work on the "mood" lighting.
I've tested the Morningstar, and it's a blast!
Reworked the Dumbfire so it can take down shields as it should.
Just downloaded the Broadsword, but haven't test it yet.

AND!!!!!!!!!
Without realizing it...
I just spent the last 24 hours working on this mod without any sleep!
I'm taking the weekend OFF!!!

BTW-that Sigma/Honshu bug mentioned a page or so back has me stumped!!!
It's being caused by random encounters, and that causes random ships to just POP up out of no where. So trying to figure out which ship is causing it is impossible!
And I've looked everywhere for anything out of place.
SOOOooooo.....
When I get back to it...
I'm gonna remove the new ships one at a time until I find the culprit!

Couldn't sleep!
Had to find it!
Started scanning everything I could scan.
And I found it!!!
A GE_FIGHTER 2 (Ferret) running around with 7,999,999 units of Cardamine!!!
Not bad for a cargo hold of 45 units!!!
Oh, how I wished I had a GE_LARGE_TRANSPORT!!!
Only a couple of places to pick that much up!
At least now I know what I'm looking for!
g'nite all!!!

@Warzog, all work and no sleep means you're obesessed. And we'll be reaping all the benefit!
