Hello everyone out there..
Well my name is... well on the heading?.
I,m 44 ( which is important cos ,please no one talk techo wizz dll ini wotsit triple code put in the sonic screwdriver and twist the warp tenticle files..cos i have no idea.. i just love this game)
So, i digree,
At 17 i was totally blown away when my brother introduced me to my first space invader machine! WOW.. So imagine MEGA WOW when i saw ELIte.. and as computers changed and my son grow up we played.. NO fought ..over who was to play Frontier on the amiga..TRIPLE WOW.
My son ,just a few weeks ago.. introduced me to his "old computer"( it has intel 4 @ 3.5 and 4 gigs of ram 3 hd drivers and TWO screens ..which is weird..)
ANd he said." by the way mum..remember that space game we played..well have a look at this...
WHAT MORE CAN I SAY ... TOO MANY WOOOWS!.
Layed it PLAYed it more..stpry ended.. errmm started to play again..

son introduced this web site and have ,in the last few weeks, down loaded so much 'Stuff' i filled up a dvd!.

SO HERES the problem .. i
I tried to play it with the folowing
Freelancer Mod Manager v1.4 beta 4

and BoB Fett slave 1 and flyBYu's capship enc

ijust wanted to try out the mod thingy. and it works.. but now i cant turn them off or delete them.
I want to try some more of these mods,forexample .. the big little mod??
and maybe a internet game .. i was thinking of discovery ?.
so if any one can help with this small problem ,please advice.
can i just delete the game and the manager?.. will this remove the mods i no longer want . or will it leave it on the disc drive??.

And a final comment .. WOW .. and Thank you to everyone of you people out there who make these "addon" thingys for this game.

there is one small thing ... why is evry thing on a horizontal plane... why cant there be jump holes that go down or upwards.. or a space station /planet cicrle thing at the northern/southern poles?..

Well you people do a great job .And thank you for the work you do and the memories you have rekinded.

welcome to lancersreactor, you are in the best hands here and many of your age play this game along with the "youngsters"

ok the mod manager has some problems with deactivating mods, but it has an option called "restore backups" that might help you to deactivate the mod
after that is done you are free to delete any mod from your computer and try others (but there is not the need to delete them - you can also keep them if you want to play them again at a later point of time)

Id suggest that you use the freelancer mod manager 1.31 instead of 1.4 in future because this old version is working better and causes less problems. You can find it here at lancersreactor

if you want to try several mods or read a bit about them before you play you can use the lancersreactor download section on our main page
you will get a very long table with all downloads, you can sort this table by clicking on its header (just click on "DLs" and you will get a list of the most favorite mods)

i hope that this will help you a bit

I've never had any problems with 1.4 yet! I don't know what you guys are doing but just never had any huge problems with it. O well I guess I am one of the lucky ones.

Some older mods have problems with 1.4, so like swat said it is best to use 1.3 for older ones. You might have to remove 1.4, and install the Quickfix patch. to remove the modifed files, as am sure there is no huge changes in those mods. Otherwise a clean install of Freelancer will help.

that always depends on what you like
i naturally play on the Crossfire Server (good roleplay server) while others play with different mods on other servers such as Void, Hamburg City, or Tekagies Treasure
Of course there are many other mods and servers out there

like i said ... it just depends on what you like to play

Most mods you can play were developed using the FLMM 1.3.1 ...
(I use the 1.4 beta 4 with the SDK 1.5b for development of my current mod)
However, just restoring backups doesn't entirely do the trick if you want to try out other mods, since many of them require a "clean install" of Freelancer ..especially if you want to play on-line in a MP environment. (left over files from other mods have to be cleaned out)

I've tried many mods out there and met many "on-line" aquaintances.
Of those, my favorites were three:
Crossfire, Top Freelancers and The Void. They require "clean installs" .

I've been working on my own mod particularly for one reason, that's to install my own ships. However, I've also been working on changing it's face and adding new "thrills" to it.

Take time and try them out. Find out what you like best.

I am a 52 year old coot who turned my kids-13,11,and 9-also 19 months-future freelancer!!-on to the game.i have had trouble with modmanager turning off certain mods so most of the time I play one mod for a while,do a complete removal and new install and then play another.There are so many great mods I have trouble choosing just one!!

what is the difference between the folowing,
OK i know some of them just help fillin the blank.

SIngle player..of course single play from disc
Open single player. ????
multi player on line with everyone else killling you ..ha ha.
NPC are ?????

Is there a way to play with out having to put in the disc every time?

final question.
i have some pictures from the game.. the pictures show views from the cockpit..
and they show an elite style radar at the bottom of the cockpit, I can only find a way to hide /remove the cockpit.. Not improve it with a smart elite stlye radar ( which looks really good).is this some ' ship' i have not used yet ..

I,m hoping to clean off the game and reinstall it this week end..
that the moment i'm in the dog house cos my husbands got a bit 'shirty' with me
cos i have been 'neglecting me house choress.... why cant he make his own tea?
...well i suppose he does have apoint ...

Think i can answer ur questions for you

Open Single Player is quite simply that you play the game with no storyline..so getting ashcroft?forget it. You start out from the beginning as lvl 1 and work up

Good practice for MP i found it
NPC's=All the computer controlled things you blow up...or get killed by

There is a way to play without the disc but it's not legal to talk about it here

That radar you have seen (btw i love elite..got a copy of Frontier here but it won't play

) is from the original Beta of the game.It was stripped out along with quite a few other things when the game was rushed to completion

And pah,tell your husband to learn how to cook. I can and i'm probably half his age (23) lol

do you have a email .. i have a copy of frontier ..it works but it makes your computer run slow .. but the game is ok ..
i still have "our" fully boxed amiga version complete with maps books and even the price docket !... and several floppy discs with saved games on... but no amiga..

a very belated greeting from me, I'm another "greying" Lancer, 43, married, two teenage sprogs, one of whom is just off to uni. There's a fair few of us here, it seems that we almost all have Elite and Wing Commander in common as to why we're die-hard space-sim fans.
