64/32 bit

To please Esquilax (never thought I'd see myself write that), I'll put this thread in the revered "Hardware Forum".

Just a simple question, does anyone know if the Intel Core 2 E6400 is 64 bit or 32 bit. I desperately need to know which version of Vista to buy.

Well, since you placed the thread in the correct forum... If I recall correctly, the Intel 6XXX series are all supposed to be 64-bit. Have you checked the specifications on intel.com?

I checked a while ago, their specs were annoyingly vague.

I had another look and they mention "64 architecture". Can I assume this means it is 64-bit? You can imagine I don't like the idea of guessing which OS version to buy so I prefer things to be spelled out.

Most of the older intel CPUs had "64-bit extensions", so at the very least the functionality will be there for 64-bit OSes even if the CPU itself is not purely 64-bit (which I am quite sure it is).

Ok, 64-bit Vista it is.

Cheers.

I'm now in a quandary; I was going to go down the AMD route for Borromir's forthcoming major upgrade and overhaul, but now I'm tempted by the Intel Core 2 Extreme

ah well, it doesn't matter as long as I'm several generations ahead of the Lapinary Luddite

That's not exactly difficult because Typhon is "old skool", or whatever kids say these days. Of course, if DAAMMIT would hurry up and release their new graphics card, I could decide when to upgrade! Damn delays *grumble*. At least release some reference cards so that I can see some benchmarks!
