Processor comparison

In my continuing quest to purchase a new laptop computer, I've come across yet another question that I don't have the answer to, so again I turn to the expert minds here at TLR for answers.

I'm comparing two machines that are equally matched in most respects, so I'm essentially forced to choose between two processors:

1.) AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile ML44 2.4GHz 800MHz FSB 1MB L2 Cache
matched with 2GB of DDR memory @400 mhz

or,

2.) Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2700 2.33GHz 2MB Cache 667MHz FSB
matched with 2GB of DDR memory @ 667 mhz

Has anyone here had experience with the Core Duo processor to know if it gives a significant boost in performance? Option #1's only other advantage is a significantly more powerful video package. Help, please!

sorry to be so late in getting back to you on this, comrade; whilst both specifications are excellent, the Intel Core Duo offers significantly increased performance in applications, especially for multi-tasking; I use one as a desktop replacement at work and I can assure that it does (for once) deliver what it promises, although the AMD Turion is certainly no slouch. Whilst you may get well better graphic performance from the other spec, I've never considered this factor of paramount importance for laptops, and the application acceleration of the Intel option far outweighs this marginal benefit. Hope that helps!

If it was a Turion X2 you'd have a harder time choosing, but as it is, go for the Core Duo. No question about it.

Thanks all for your help. I was skeptical about the Core Duo at first, simply because it was so new, but I've learned that I can trust Taw's hardware judgement... Though the second option offers SLI in a laptop, graphics power isn't much without a strong processor backing it up. On top of that, it's got to have rediculous power consumption. The Core Duo setup allegedly offers quite a bit better battery life.

Now, second question: I've been a strong nVidia fan for quite awhile, and have never had an ATI video card. This Core Duo machine I'm looking into comes with a 256MB ATI Mobility™ Radeon® X1800 ... is this a reputable or well performing card?
