How does Centrino rate? I love my new one, 2mb cache 533 fsb and all. Intel® Pentium® M Processor 740, Mobile Intel® 915GM Express Chipset Ad it lists Vid ram as 128mb, but how can I tell if it is shared ram? Total Physical listed as 512

you have no place to mock, Flopsy; even as a Celeron it whups the @ss off that heap of obso;escent junk you call Typhon

FD, it is shared ram, all laptops are now. If you check the memory count at boot then compare it with the amount the system applet properties tell you Windows is using, the difference is the amount of RAM used for video. You can change that amount in the BIOS (usually in integrated peripherals) which is handy if you never intend to play any games on it, cos you can knock it down to 64mb or 32mb, which is all you need if you ain't gaming.

I got lucky; the laptop I have actually has 32 megs dedicated to the GF4MX, which means all 512 megs are available for the OS.

The downside is that I can't give the graphics chip more memory to improve performance a bit.

Typhon isn't THAT old! Besides, you just wait until I can afford a new computer, even you will be impressed with it. You'll see! I have learnt much, and when I can afford much... Oh, yes. Typhon will be reborn as... something else (I haven't decided on a name yet).
