What is the best Mod for Freelancer?

Greetings all,

Like so many of you here, I got Freelancer when it first came out and really enjoyed the game. Then after beating it a couple times, I placed it into the big box that the other 300 or so games I have for the PC end up. I then moved to another City and forgot about the game.

Long story short I found the box and I have since reinstalled Freelancer. The regular SP game is fine, but I want some more excitement.

So my question to you is this:
Which SP or LAN MOD would you say is the best for Freelancer? I am not interested in playing any online.

I very much like the "TIE Universe" mod & have begun a new SP game using that mod. I also like the "TNG" mod. Sadly the TNG mod seems to be buggy (at least for me) and so it is always crashing. No matter what I do it always starts to crash as I get further and further into the game. (After about 10 hrs of play or several systems away from the starting point) To answer the obvious question, yes I read the Manual several times and followed each step to the Tee.

I also really liked the "Crossfire 1.4" mod and all it's features, but I havn't really gived it a long try. Is it worth the time to play it? The beginning was frustrating as can be. You start off very weak. Took me the better part of over 2 hrs to beat 3 random missions. (That you get in the bar & these were level 1 missions) Sure harder is better, but when I counted the amount of times the AI recharged his shields or fixed his Hull, I began to get fed up since IMHO it was not very balanced. I mean come on, self-shield-repair over 30 times on a starting ship? They do not carry that many nanobots or shield Batteries, but that didn't stop the AI. Still though, the MOD looks fantastic and if anyone here has played it and can tell me if it gets better, i'll stick with it.

Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions.

Crossfire is a great mod but very hard, its because the ships are faster & handle better than normal. That and the low refire rate of the weapons makes it damn hard to kill anybody.

I'd also try "Just for fun"
