New Model: Arwing

Heya, this is my first try at editting Freelancer, but believe me when I say I'm a veteran with modelling, I've got loads of names udner my belt on titles like Neverwinter Nights and such (See below for a couple of past models)

Anyway I kinda liked freelancer but I'm not happy wiht the models, and I've just realised there is now a Milkshape Plugin for Freelancer... well, now it's there I have *GOTTA* add the age old Arwing to Freelancer, I mean, is it not THE coolest old school space fighter out there?

I mean, just drool (This is a screenshot from Nintendo, but the finished model won't be all that different, trust me)

A couple of past models for Neverwinter Nights have been (copy paste links):

So, have faith - and prepare ye selves for a nifty new fighter ^_^

You've definately got one person who wants to download it....me. Hope it comes together well.

I've been plugging away at the core model, I've also got the UVW co-ordinates mapped out too, although you can't tell from the piccy, so I'll start skinning it tommorow, I just wanted to double check with the online tutorial that the skinning method was the same as most other games.

Anyway, heres the mesh so far (I may yet redo the wings a bit, and add the air intakes as part of the mesh rather than just details on the skin):

*Disclaimer: Not representetive of final result :p

I'm thinking perhaps I should integrate the air intakes into the mesh, it'll increase the polycount quite a bit, but the improvement in quality during close up shots will probably be worth it. The current polycount stands at 1008, which isn't bad for a high detailed model.

Nearly finished... I've still got a fair bit of work do to on the skins (Even though you may not believe that from the screenies), tweak the engine effects, and stats. I also want to see if I can make the wings destructable too... then it´s all done and you'll be able to use it.

I think I'll need to up it to 6 hardpoints from 4, at the moment 4 hardpoints, and no turrets just doesn't give enough flexibility, all the guns right now are on the main hull (Two mounted under the wing sweeps, and two pectoral mounts), I'll probably add the other 2 under the flat panels in the mid wing if it doesn't look too goofy.

So far it's a pretty sweet ride (Visually) and already been using it in game ^_^

What I can say: sweet. Nice job on the arwing. I remember trying to get somebody to model it for starlancer... and before that cruising around the lylat system with it. Ahh... good times. Good times.
(Though... it does look slightly different from the N64 version, and the Dinosaur Planet version was totally off from them both... I've wondered why it keeps changing.)

Incidentally, have you thought of putting guns in between the vertical... er, things? Right in those gaps there?
And too bad you can't make it transform just like in the games.

But again, great job!
(A bit late now for this, but This Blueprint-ish thing would've been helpful earlier when I tried to make it myself... years ago. *sigh*)

FINALLY! A while ago I suggested some one to make the arwing from Star Fox. Some one said it wasn't worth it cause not enough detail or some bull like that. THANK YOU!!!!

Post Fri Jul 16, 2004 7:38 am

If the detail is bull, improvise ^_^

I had virtually al the detail I needed, but I added some panel markings to the funny vertical fin thingies (A semi official technical drwaing I found had them marked as G-Diffusers). I don't think a gun would look right there, but anyway it works fine with a couple under the wings.

The mine layer and CM launcher are mounted in the alcove behind each fin, torpedo is on a panel on the underbelly, two pectoral guns, and two guns under the the rails that give it the variable geometry (in theory), and one udner each wing. Plus it's got 4 blue running lights on the front of each fin and red landing lights on the tips.

Anyway, heres the screenies of the practiclly finished version... I gotta say I kinda like this model a lot; bet you guys are a really wishing you had it now ^_^ (I'll probably post it up on Monday), in the meantime keep drooling.

The Model as is (With a little digital help):

The ship looks ****in' sweet. Me want now.....

Post Sat Jul 17, 2004 4:05 am

Well done. This is one of the ships I've been wanting to see in freelancer for awhile now. You should tell us all when it's done!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hammond in reference to Cassie levitating and spinning the knight chess piece: "How can she do that?"
Jack: "Magnets. Magnets, every, every one of those pieces has got a little tiny magnet in the bottom, to hold it on the board when you're driving so it doesn't rattle off. Anyway, every one of those magnets has got a little electrical field around it, that's how she was able to manipulate it. Magnets." Hammond stares blankly. "They do look like horses." Doc, Daniel, and Teal'c stare blankly.

Post Mon Jul 19, 2004 4:35 am

So when to we get this kickass ship?

Post Mon Jul 19, 2004 8:34 am

I'm just submitting the finished verson to the Reactor files now, the final stats are:

Cost: 120,000 credits

Armour: 3600 (Weak, but just take one look, it's not a tough ship)
Nanobots/Batteries: 16/64 (Shields compensate for hull)
Storage: 70
Shield Class: 10
Max Weapon Class: 10
Hardpoints:
- Guns: 6
- Turrets: None
- Torpedo, Cruise Disruptor, Mines, Counter Measures

Power Store: 4200 (Medium)
Power Recharge: 960 (V.Fast)
Impulse Engine: 120kph (As opposed to 80)
Afterburner: 250kph (Stock afterburners)

And heres a final, final screenshot, as it'll look when you get it.

I also tried to do a custom pilot model as an additonal add on, but it didn't work, heres the base pilot model in case you were wondering (It's Fox from the Starfox series that the Arwing comes from), but as I said it didn't work.
http://www.geocities.com/ryuujin_0/Sour ... ing_08.jpg (Bare in mind this is zoomed in a lot so it's fuzzy)

Ryuujin I love the ship, the original and your recreation.

About the pilot, instead of trying to make it on the hardpoint, just try implementing him in the base model as a separate group(s)

when is it going to be out on TLR
