Hi,
Firstly, great advice Harrier, what you said to rogue really helped me with skinning in milkshape. my model looks half decent now. Thanks !

I need some more help understanding something though if possible.
I've created my model in Gmax, exported to milkshape, selected my groups, then some sub-groups that I skinned, placed back into major groups, i.e hull, wings, spoiler, cockpit etc.
Once I had finished all the skinning, I'd planned to just export straight to CMP without hardpoints and do them in HardCMP.
However, milkshape is only exporting one part of the model at times, at others nothing at all. I look at the data in the CMP via UTFedit and it looks fine, but i go to load it in HardCMP and there is nothing there or only a partial hull.
What could be the problem ? any ideas would be great cause I got 'NO' idea, nada..

Hmmm.. One point... Did you rationalise your groups into as few as possible starting with the largest which you gave an unique name? i.e. MYShip (the ship name)?
Plus, the cmp exporter can be funny without at least one hardpoint: Hp/Fixed/HpMount , without it there can sometimes be problems, my suggestion would be to add it at least before you export, then do the balance in Hardcmp as you intended...

If all this fails it may be that the model needs bounding box info, (see... Antons FlModelTool), or the textures are not being recognised... did you do the textures by hand or use the .mat file exporter?

So far so good....... until 2:58 when i got to mod folder
i made folders but dont get the par with cmps and mats
hey im young only 11.......
please help :p

MAN I TRIED with out mod folder went into single loaded a game and now it crash as soon as i click load i guess to play i have to make the mod SO HELP *BEGS* if you do and if you dont

Freelancer: M-B,

Well.. one suggestion.. Replace a working freelancer ship with your ship. Copy the .cmp amd .mat files into the Data\ships folder and test it..if it appears ok.. then create your modfile.

There are two main files needed for a ship in Freelancer, (other than selling and encounters), Shiparch.ini and goods.ini... If there is an error in either the game can/will crash...

If that fails give us more detail...

Um i made the mod folder with no prob but now...
Um i activated my mod in flmm and doesnt work...
I went into market ships
and renamed a package from lf to my ship's save that i used for the cmp
(PLEASE WORK)
and it doesn't work i also chaged the flmmbak for market_ships and um doesnt work.
the ships shifted spaces 1 counterclockwise and the rihno space is empty.
Thats all the detail i can give

Ok. here was my expiriment.
I noticed that my cmp file was named YES BABY (dont ask was very that it worked)
So i made a cmp named PLEASE WORK.
Which is the name of the ship

But unfortunetly nothing.

Ok i tried my best but i seem to have really screwed something up. My ship is invisible. It has no hardpoints, no shields no thrusters and doesnt move. Basicly the only thing my ship can do is be bought from the Battleship Osiris!

Someone help me out here please!

I have no way of posting my ship unless you all know of a place were i can get 249 kb of space for free?

Hi great tutorial

i followed every thing correctly but when i buy the ship and undoock i can onley see the middel of my ship and all the hard points

plzzzzzzz help its ok i have now fixed the problem but now my ship is white i used the mat exporter

ok i can help i think.
this is for the shadow_titan dude
either your LOD ranges are wrong or you didnt notice,
that drizzt said in tutorial that is ms3d [milkshape you must unzoom the farthest in front view and the cockpit is IN YOUR FACE the its about the size of the liberty defender.

OK i did what i did i made another mistake that um the cmp in the flmm folder was still named YES BABY (like i said dont ask i was happy)
So i got one named PLEASE WORK and i loaded my mod along with TNG 2.65
Dont ask about 2.65 i know thers 2.76 but i didnt like that cruise engines even for capitol were out and i made my mod with 2.65 on.
So i loaded both even with interfreence cause if i dont load 2.65 of thng it goes the microsoft start screens the the 2.65 TNG then crashes.

So i loaded with the mod and and it crashed


Maybe because i used word pad in stead of notepad

I made a whole other ship with a whole lot of a better design.
Now i did everything except infocards (dont need it)
And the UTF didnt get it,
In the tutorial it says to try it out after doing the WinZip
i did it loaded a game and it crashed.

This ''is'' a little off-topic
but, does any1 know where to get a gun creation
tutor and program?

Did you try the steps I outlined in the other answer up the page?.. i.e. replace an existing freelancer ships .cmp and mat file with yours after renaming them.. also I suggest you work with unmodded freelancer NOT from within a mod .. that is the way to invite a crash...

On the subject of weapons creation I did a tutorial: Here

Working from that argh refined the process and made it a bit simpler to do in this thread:

However making custom weapons .cmps are hard.., and are not for the faint hearted...

first of all i need to say this was a good tutorial but i think the mat file could be better explained cuz FL keeps crashing if i select my ship in the ship purchasing screen and i think there's something wrong with my mat file can anyone help please

This tut is a great one! I allways wanted to do something with 3D editing. But I got one problem: the site that got the .md3 gmax exporter has been deleted. Somebody know another download link for it or maybe has the program?
