Privateer: The Reckoning MOD is ALIVE!

Here you can find news, get help and comment about the Privateer / Wing Commander Total Conversion called ?Privateer: The Reckoning? and accompanying Mods

Post Thu Mar 04, 2004 11:30 am

Now, now, nobody here's the master of anybody ... we're all equal members, with an equal share in things, or so I like to think so. Even though some of us can fly off the handle at times ...

On a more positive note: Huzzah!

Verily, foundeth I have the sector names

I'm in the process of removing them for a patch ... uploading soon ...

GEEZ everybody,

Why can't we just get along for crying out loud? We're all working toward a common goal right? What's with all the flaming and sarcasim? This mod's gonna crash and burn if we don't just get along. It's happened before, and it will happen again.

Anyway, warzog, are you're LOD ranges all set right in shiparch? That can cause invisible ship problems too. Try (LODranges = 0, 40, 60, 140, 300, 1000). That might solve it. Also is your texture square? A multiple of eight is required I think. 256 pixels x 256 pixels, or 512, or 1024. I think 128x128 also works. If it's not that could also be a problem. Hope this helps!

johnhawke:
I didn't do any of the textures, so don't ask me.
I haven't a clue, or the software to check.

As to the LOD's, all of them are set to 0, 99999
Any other settings makes all of the ships invisible.

Edit:
I just ran a test with the LODranges = 0, 40, 60, 140, 300, 1000
Still invisible.

Bob McDob:
2 things:
1) How do you tell which system is in which quadrant?
---Using the old settings will be wrong, won't they?
2) Have you fixed the Stiletto's Afterburners?
---If so, I could use a copy.

Tolwyn:
I apollogize if I've said anything to offend you.

@warzog,

I'll look at the .mat if you want. I've got a few things I can try.

Update:
The Gemini Sector map is done!!!

I still need to change the Mission ini's to:
1)Reflect the exclusive use of jumpholes throughout the Gemini Sector.
2)Change the jumpholes that are locked out during missions.
3)Change the jumpholes that are unlocked during, and after missions.

The Gemini Sector was arranged so that the missions still follow the same paths.
(They're just stretched, and contorted, a bit.)
You'll be forced to "Explore" more of Gemini than in the standard FL game.
Going from Kyoshu to New Tokyo to start Mission #8 requires going through a minimum of 6 systems.
There are 17 new systems with minable fields, patrols, random encounters.
Perry has a fully functioning base.
You'll have access to Freeport 7, Toledo, and all but the last mission's system.
(But you'll pay the price for going in solo!)
(I've added a bunch of Nomad Defensive patrols around the jumpholes.)

I still need to go through and make sure that names are correct, and that the jumpholes are at the right spots in the systems.
(Some missions require jumpholes off the beaten path, and I can't change that much.)

Also, there's only one path between the systems.
Not the 2 or 3 as in FL.
(Makes it more interesting, and more Privateer-like.)

I almost forgot...
I've left the FL system's names in until it's decided to remove them later.
Right now, I think it would be rather difficult to get around with all new names.
For example:
If you ignore Juni's call for you to join her long enough, she stops calling.
Trying to find her with all of the new names would be difficult, because she's using FL's names!
And while the Sirius system only had 47 systems, Gemini has 70.
That's an awful lot to look through trying to find Juni, or anything/anyplace you might be looking for.

Do you have a list of which Freelancer systems corrospond to which Privateer ones? If so I can change the "MEET JUNI ON CAMBRIDGE" text that appears to the proper ones. Also, I can edit Trent's log, so if the player gets confused he can always glance at that.

Also, I'm experiencing some weird errors. For one thing, when I start up FLMM, I have to edit script.ini because the destination for many of the replacements doesn't exist. (the error seems to be caused by some system jump points having "Info_IDS" instead of IDS_Info or whatever). When I fix that, there's still sporadic crashes near jump points which make it impossible to jump to the Privateer systems. Any system debuggers have any ideas?

Bob:
Which version of FLMM are you using?
I'm on beta 10.
When I tried using IDS_Name instead of strid_name,
the names wouldn't show up,
or the mod wouldn't start at all.
I haven't done much traveling yet, since the missions haven't been fixed.

apology accepted... and perhaps I have to apology myself for being drunk yesterday. As a commoner would say: never get drunk unless you want to pay for it... the next day. But I will manage it.

But if anyone has a problem with me, well, go ahead. Even if newcomers have no idea who I am, and aren't aware of what I've done for the team, or my other responsiblities. I do not have a problem with that.

I'm glad.

Now perhaps someone could get back to re-enabling the FTP so we can upload files again :p

Post Sat Mar 06, 2004 4:32 am

as I usually do it was time to change the password on all of my ftp servers. Just change the digit to the next in the row.

Okay. BTW, I've asked Eraser if he could set up a mirror FTP in case you change the password and forget to tell or your server burns down or something. warzog's computer in particular is unstable at the moment, a minor delay could lose a lot of work. Maybe I'll ask TC at Blacklance to set us up too, so there should be at least two servers up at any one time. Experience has proven it pays to be paranoid.
