I'm a little late to the forum but a half century plus 4 years is calling my name this year. I guess that's middle aged as my grandmother is still knocking them dead at 94 and was dancing at my sons wedding last week. As to the first gaming experience try a monchrome green screen with text while trying to figure out to freeze the wizard or melt the ice with dragon fire. Throw the bird so the dragon chases him. Yep a z80 built it myself and all programs you had to write yourself with basic. Also had a SOFT Floppy style disk built in. I probably have 100 titles of old and new games. Some of my faves are Outcast like the story line, Unreal drop dead graphics a little tough at times (hate the jakari) Quake2, Blade of Darkness hard to learn the controls but some great game play graphics, Bang GunShip, Operation Flashpoint brings back memories of other times, Rune has some good and bad things about it just like FL, Rogue Sqadron tough at times, G police not great graphics but some interesting story plot lines, Omicron, I could go on and on but you get the idea. I agree once you are a gamer you are in for life. I think the challenge is that you are allowed to be or do things that you can't in ordinary life. There was a post here that talked about the "Dumbing" down of games I believe you are right in some respects. Like all things in life they must make it apeal to common denominator. Software companys spent a lot of money developing games and programs if they only sell a few then they loose money and have nothing to invest back on the next project. I always thought that is what upgrade and patches were for fine tuning the game to fit the smaller niche of people who want more from a particular game. Read through some of the posts and you will see a lot of complaints about how quickly they went through or how they were disappointed in one or another aspect of the game but how many people can say they didn't get their money's worth? Old guys are long winded so let me just say this on parting. Keep playing and buy what you like and like what you buy. Just some thoughts from the edge of space.
