Hey hey !
No, I'm not Krusty The Klown, but, I have just finished downloading your mod, and reading your 'entire' thread here... you guys have some excellent ideas comming, and if I wasn't shipping out on the 17th for the US Army, I'd want to join your crew.
Maybe I can still lend a hand though, I'm pretty creative, and while I've had no 'real' experience in modding, I am a very talented writter and would be more than willing to toss a few ideas your way as far as scripting.
That aside, I'd like to compliment on your work. I know it's not easy creating all these cool skins, textures and systems, but you all are doing an amazing job as far as I can tell.
I have had a few ideas however...
First, heh, that hotely discussed Chaingun, it's pretty cool, from what I here it drains really fast. Now it would seem to me, that if a weapon drains really fast, it doesn't matter how fast it fires, 'cause you can only use for an extrememly limited ammount of time. Now someone suggested before that you make it with Ammo. I believe, Parabolix said something about how everyone would tote around the universe with over 100,000 bullets. Well, I was thinking, why not make it use bullets AND energy? That way you could decrease the energy consumption, and still have a limits of sorts. Another idea, would be to just limit the ammount of bullts you could carry. at 6000 rounds/minute, why not limit it to.. 3000 rounds? 30 seconds of constant fire is pretty realistic, and why not make it so you can only have around 5-10 seconds of constant fire at a time, before it would 'overheat' by way of energy consumption?
I must also agree with what someone else said about many of your ship designs, how they tend to be symetrical/twin wing based. It's a good design, and the designs really do look incredible, however some tri wings might add some a different look for a few of them.
A generalistic idea I had was, and bear in mind I don't even know if this is possible. But a way to have two different wireframes for each ship, or several. The turrets on certain ships can rotate, but as far as I know, nothing else on the ship can, aside from the animation of thrusters/cruise. I was wondering a way to incorperate an animation of sorts to the cruise mode, that seems like it might be a little bit more interesting, might be too much work to really be worth it though.. : /
another idea... 2 words... Auto-tracking...
The tradelanes seem to be able to fire at you, and that's probably by way of some sort of autotracking. So I'm wondering, on the some of the capship you have in the works, maybe a few of the hardpoints would be auto trackings? I think it would be somewhat realistic as if you purchase a capital ship, your not the only one of it, there's a crew of hundreds on it, and probably individual people manning each of the guns...
I'm greatly looking forward to the idea of being able to destroy bases and docking rings... but might I suggest a weapon on new sorts? an EMP, if you will, a way to disable larger ships and docking rings... and maybe a disrupter, to temporarily disable jump gates/holes, would add some depth to the game, and make it much harder to run away for the player...
I have more ideas if you want to here them, but once again, GREAT game guys, keep up the good work
