Else if it can be done by hand, could someone tell me how to do this ? (maybe HCl ? )
Well I assume the problem is with VMeshData format handling...the other data from .cmp is quite easy to edit..

I would be very willing to write a 3dsmax importer/exporter pair in exchange for donation of a copy of 3dsmax. The exporter I wrote was specifically written to be portable. Out of 3000 lines of code, only about 100 are specific to MilkShape.

Indeed. Which is why I need the donation in order to do the work. I'm not going to fork out several thousands of dollars for the privilege of doing someone a favour. Sometimes companies like that, though, will offer free copies for developers who write plugins. Mebbe some folks can do the legwork and find out.

A cmp importer/exporter for 3dsmax5 would be nice! As for a copy of max sorry cant ((give)) you a copy!

GMax is nice, and freely available. The developers kit for it is not freely available - it is available only with a paid subscription to their Sparks program.

It's my understanding that there are people working on an importer/exporter plugin, however. They were unable to offer a copy of 3DS Max (my read into this was they were working with bootlegged coppies, but this may be wrong) to me, and instead were asking for me to release the source code for mine. Unfortunately this isn't something I was prepared to do. Hopefully they have enough programming talent that this won't be a huge setback for them.

We legally own all of our software thank you very much. You never replied to me so I have been sitting here spinning my wheels waiting for a yes or no answer. Now that I have it we will just do it on our own. All it means is the plugin will be delayed a lot longer than it needed to be. For future reference if someone asks you something be courteous enough to respond even if it is a no.

so theres no 3dsmax/gmax model exporter? only milkshape? that sucks. no one in this large community will make one for them, but preffer to stick to the crash-happy, bugridden, and horrible milkshape3d? sigh... thats pathetic.

I got a trial version of 3dsMax from discreet's website- fully functional for 30days
kinda big, though- 75MB for just the executable.

Any status on this project?

keep this on down low. if you set back your comps date it will work for ever but your date will be mest up.
