I know the answer is somewhere but i can't find it. I've doone all the firewall stuff and the multiplayer still won't work. It just keeps saying connecting to global server and i have installed the patch for it but in the bottom right hand corner where it says patch it still says 1.0. Please help me Thank you
The patch is aimed for servers primarily, as it does not fix any client or SP issues. It address cheating etc.
As for not connecting, how many firewalls do you have, and are you running through a router too?
I used to have Macfee firewall, and would permission FL. Regardless of that, it would still freeze on connecting, and I'd have to "guess" the location of the firewall popup (because it would not come above the FL screen even though it should) and click on "okay" to allow access.
For some reason it's permissions didn't work properly until it caught the attempted connection to the internet, and if i couldn't click on that permission okay, then I'd have to reboot (alt tab didn't change screen, it just mean I could move my mouse to click on the "invisible" screen).
I don't have these issues with Keiro though... so it maybe the actual software that causes the issue.

I would uninstall the patch, uninstall freelancer and delete the folder. (Gives a completely lean install) Reinstall freelancer. and here is chips advise in the sticky on firewalls for zone alarm. Note, there is a newest one, that can give problems.

Zone Alarm
Open your Zone alarm
Click on Program Control Tab (left side)
Click on Add Program
Navigate to your Freelancer's EXE folder
default is C:\Program Files\Microsoft games\Freelancer\EXE\
Click on Freelancer.exe and click ADD
Close Zone Alarm.
Remember to do the same for the FLServer.exe if you are running that!
Ok. What if it doesnt work when i reinstall it then what cause i can't change the firewall cause then my dad will get pissed. I have once disabled zonealarm and i still couldnt get it to work it still just says connecting to global server. I have also gone in the microsoft firewall and have allowed the flserver to be accepted.
Try asking your dad to allow you to permission Freelancer to access the net for MP usage?
As it is, disable the windows firewall if you have zonealarm, as their is NO BENEFIT from having the windows and zone alarm activated. Indeed, Windows doesn't even stop programs from accessing the internet, it only stops incoming traffic instead - which means it is effectively half a firewall, and completely useless.
I take it you do not have a router as well then? Also, once permissioned in Zone Alarm, I still had to manually click on "allow" for when connecting to the net with FL for the first time, as Zone Alarm was a bit naff in that respect.

Fraid I am no expert on routers, mine seemed to let me through without incident
However, on the actual Freelancer CD you will be able to find the support documents (fraid I am not at home, so cannot check which folder to look in for it). There is a big word document, and if I remember correctly, it includes some troubleshooting with regards to routers, firewalls and other such stuff.
Try exploring the CD, finding this file, and having a bit of a read.

Hey there, I seem to have the same problems as you. I have McAfee firewall and have tried everything to get MP to work. The odd thing is, it used to work on my old pc, but not my new one. It just says "Connecting to global server" then freezes.
You should maybe try looking in the sticky topic *FIX* MP Internet Connection Issues - FIREWALLS in this forum for more ideas, but I can't guarantee it will help as it didn't help me. Good luck
