Scratched disc

Hey any one got the cab2 file my disc got scratched and is non-repairable and I'm only missing 1 file otherwise i could burn a new disc.

Post Tue Feb 14, 2006 5:48 pm

Sorry friend, if the disk is scratched beyond repair, then you will have to buy a new disk. The Disks are incoded to prevent copying them. You must have an original disk to run the game. Giving you the file would not help. Check ebay and Amazon.com, they are very cheep these days.

Will Microsoft/DA replace damaged CDs?

Post Fri Feb 17, 2006 2:38 pm

No. That's like me saying, "Will they replace my whole computer for free if it ever breaks." Chances are.......well very odd.
You'll have to buy a new copy.
Look on Ebay, or Amazon. It should on;y cost you to 4$ to 12$ US.

Nope they woudn't even replace my scratched win2k pro disk because it was purchased without the box. scratches on the top of the disk:<(

Post Fri Mar 03, 2006 4:26 pm

This begs the question, how did you buy it without the box.

Post Sat Mar 04, 2006 1:37 pm

There are some licenced versions of Windows you can buy that just come with a manual and a plastic sleeve. They're usually upgrades you buy with a hard drive or (at colleges or unis) with student ID.

Post Sat Mar 04, 2006 4:12 pm

Its called OEM versions... can be purchased with any type of "fundamental" computer equip (ie processor, mobo etc).

Feel for you with the scratched disk, but the reason why companies will not replace them for you is because... who's fault is it that it is scratched. Just like everything else in life, you are responsible for keeping your posessions in a way that prevents them from damage. If you sold someone something, and they damaged it themselves through negligence (or through any means that is not due to a flaw with your product), would you then fork out the cash to replace it?

absolutely - and since $#1% happens you need to make backups, to protect the *property* you purchased. seems some people don't feel you own the data on the disc, merely the otherwise useless plastic its encoded on

down with DRM and other IP fascism! ^__^

p.s. you can purchase a disc-scratch-remover at wallymart etc department stores for almost nothing

Quote "Yeah i know fl can't be copied to a new disc, soamfb.lol, tried it, didn't work " I beg to differ on that statement, with the right burning tools almost any disc can be copied. Not gonna tell you how though ;-)

Since this one has been answered, and is leading to the wrong discussion on CD's I'm locking it.
