Question about Sellable Engines...

Has anyone come up with a solution or some hack so you can sell and transfer engines between players? I've made some engines, but it annoys me that the only way you can get rid of the old one if you bought a new is if you jettison the thing...

imho it´s no good idee, if the engines can be transfered,
so these define the flight stats of a ship.

And by flight stats you mean the top speed of the ship when not using thrusters, and not the agility of the ship which is specified for the ship itself - not the engine. There are pros and cons to making engines transferrable, but you can limit misuse by making engines for large ships take up cargo space so you don't end up with a BS engine on a Fighter.

But most engines between fighters are pretty close in actual stats (at least in Vanilla lol).

It's only fighter classed ships that will have the opportunity to upgrade their engine! I do know what happens if you mount a BS engine on a light fighter... Hehehe! I've also written a fat warning that you will blow up due to reactor instability if you mount it on other classes than fighters! Hehe... Of course you don-t but if that could be done THAT would be sweet!

But read the other post about this and no real solution yet! Some guy wrote that you should just add "ENGINES_SELLABLE = TRUE" in constants.ini under [EngineEquipConsts but this has no effect and I checked Freelancer.exe and that line is nowhere to be found like the other constants lines!

So... Anyone who have an alternate solution? Only thing I want is to be able to sell them and transfer them between ships whether this is when you buy a new ship or between players!

You know how everything has a "type = something"? Guns are equipment, scanners are equipment, commodities are commodities - I'm sure this wouldn't work, but what if (in your goods entries) you made the engines use something other than equipment?

The reason I don't think this idea will work is because the guns are sellable and use equipment.

Instead of calling it an [Engine, could you call it a [Thruster and just leave the rest the same? I'll mess around tonight with this problem. Who knows...lol

Nope... Just tryed calling them [Thruster instead... You can buy the engines as thrusters then yes, but they doesn't work at all! So I think we have to come up with some exe hack... Maybe there's a line or 2 where you only have to change the first letter of the line... Like you can with effects to make the game run default settings...

Hmm... Seems someone here is about to do alot of trial and failure today! :-p

here is the link 4 the engine shop mod.
I didn´t even have a look at, so we created some own engine effects and didn´t want the players 2 trade engines.

The "linear drag" setting will also effect strafe speed imho.

@ F!R...

I'm not requesting help about making new engines and engine effects, because I do know how to do that very well... :-) All I want is the engines to be sellable again when you bought a new one! So far the only way to get rid of the old one is to jettison the thing or get killed...

We probably have to find some hack in the exe for this and I'll have a look at it sometime in this weekend, but before I "wasted" my time doing this I wanted to hear if other ppl has found the solution(s) to this! :-)
