FLModelTool: "Invalid floating point operation" on

I've always like the Blackhole thing in the game. Too bad the developer never finished it properly. Wel, there's no gravity in the game (which, i.m.o would have been very cool - come too close to a gaseous giant and you'd have work hard not to get sucked into its atmoshpere) so a blackhole would be kinda silly.

Anyway, I wanted to increase the size of the blackhole maelstrom, using FLModelTool, but on opening blackhole.3db, it gives an error message "Invalid floating point operation".

Does anyone know to either fix this error, or explain if (and more importantly how) to increase the size of the blackhole thing without using FLModelTool? I want it about 20k at least (so you can add it more to the bg, not allowing players to come too close and just fly thru it without consequence)

EDIT ===============================================================

Another nasty thing about the blackhole is, that it disappears as its center is not in sight. If I'm correct the same problem occurred with custom-built ships - FlModelTool is used to fix that, but it can't load the blackhole.3db....

I believe FLMModelTool was design for CMP and SUR files. You could probably convert the 3db to a CMP and adjust the approiate files to point to the cmp instead of the 3db file. You could then use FLModelTool to resize the cmp.

Thanks for your rwply.

How do I do that? Is there a way to do this without using Milkshaoe? (My version stopped working, and from what I read the plugins won't work with newer versions)

errrr, youll need to get a copy of a working MS that works with the CMP importer, then save it as a CMP......

WHOSE TRYING TO OPEN ME?

Well this guy is trying...

Okay back to the main issue:

@ Fadius, Cheese-on-Toast or anybody else who knows this:

How do I import a 3db file into MS? When I try this with the CMP importer, MS crashes... And there doesn't seem to be a plugin dedicated to .3db files.... (or, is there?)

EDIT================================================================

Actually I might just as well build a new model; it's not that complicated:

The difficulty will be to keep the transparency in the texture. I'll come back to the proper forum for that...

Cheese, check your email!

And if you gonna try anyway, please try the blackhole.3db

I believe the reason MS crashed when you try to import the cmp for it is that it's too physically large.
The reason it dissappears is that the file for this little nasty is only one sided. (single layer)

@ Rankor: the file is no .cmp but a .3db... I tried with the CMPimporter though... (this is in fact the whole issue: to convert a .3db into a .cmp)

About the disappearing: it behaves like those custom-build ships... This could be fixed in FlModelTool - which can only do .cmp files, so I need to convert the blackhole.3db into a .cmp...

This reminds me of that silly song "There's a hole in me bucket", where the eventual procedure to get the bucket fixed, included a bucket without a hole...

Anyway, create a new thing myself seems easier, though skinning it is the next barrier (The only method I know to skin a model is with Milkshape - which is not a very flexible program for this purpose)
