you see, i gota 56k(yes, i'm broke)
my problem is that after a i been connected a while, my internet connection slows down so bad that it looks like is disconnected, but its not.
there is still data comming in but at like 200 b a second with a kb a second going out, there is so much lag it takes a half our for a message to show up.
but if i restart my comp, the problem is ''temporarily'' fixed but the problem
comes back the same amount of time later.

As a fellow dialupper, If you browse while downloading, it goes down. If you download more than one thing at a time, it goes down. And sometimes the site your are downloading from, as most of its band with being used, downloads slow. Since you noted you get an increase when you reboot, it may be on your end. When downloading, limit your browsing and the amount of pages open at that time. My download speed averages 4.5kb to 5.8 kb per sec but drops as I browse. Also, switch browser and try that. I find Firefox helps it a little bit.

it's possible you modem could be dieing i had a similar problem about a month ago with my connection failing for no reason and then failing to reconnect try buying a new modem most of them are cheap, it also could be your phone line causing it.

its not my browser, the problem occurs at almost esactly the same amount of time after i turn my comp back on.
i dont brows much,
hey finalday, i didnt know u were a dial upper,
lol, no hard feelings bud, no hard feelings.
these cable peeps are just to wussy to ''brave the elements'' and
''survive the ''premative life''. ''
i think dial up just helps you cope better with lag.
the high tech cable peeps freak out when the slightest of lag appers
but, my problem, the lag is just way to bad for anybody.
(why me?!) :,-(

hmmm, tricky. A few thoughts though.

Could it be your router has some kind of fill-able memory that you keep clearing with the resets? The fact that a reset sorts it indicates to me that it could be something like this. Almost as if your memory cache is filling and needs to be emptied. Have no idea how you would check your router for something like that though...

Definately a bit odd. I'll ask around

The statement below is true.
The statement above is false.

I have no idea what your problem is, but I'd call the ISP and ask. If you've done that, call whoever made the modem.

@Blackhole - that's it? I have 4 mbps coming to the house for $30 a month.

ok, theres a difference between kilaBYTES and megaBITS. Your refering to megaBITS per second, i'm refering to kilaBYTES per second.

arton alpha is absolutely right, this sounds like a hardware issue where

1.your modem is too covered in dust and is thus overheating or experiencing other difficulties like static buildup, shorting, etc - easy to understand since its internal - try pulling the modem(remember which slot it goes in)and dusting it off, blow out the slot and clean any dirt off the connector
2.your modem is dieing and probably won't last much longer anyways

in any case, you need to try a new modem and besides that check your computer thoroughly with the latest updates to avast antivirus and adaware(anti malware).a regular constriction in bandwidth could be cause by bots or spyware using your connection for nefarious ends - unlikely but possible and much more noticeable on a modem than cable or other high bandwidth connection

Blackhole - That still comes out to 2.5 Mbps for you. Mine in KBps is about 500. I still win.

the spyware/malware possibility is actually rather more likely than Cold Void suggest, although his analysis is correct and you indeed may well have a dying modem. basically so much evil crud is using up what little bandwidth you have that you're ending up with bob all.

Ad-Aware, M$ Spyware beta (i admit its not bad at all..) ANY spyware remover will help, then scan for viruses with good updated AV, then run a registry repair utility through your system, this should all help improve your connectivity. then start looking at modems and phone lines. but cross that bridge when you come to it.

<aaaaaahhhhh> i'm back doing tech-support on TLR, i'm lost in a time-warp!
