Two doubts about freelancer..

Well, there are quite simple, but I would to know them anyway:
-> Do the "rumors" in the bar/taverns have any use besides give a deep enviroment to the game? (The same to the news)
-> There are any difference between, for example, take a job from the "job menu" to Samura industries and take a job for samura industries talking with a employee of that company from the bar?

In addition: Crossfire includes the chance of buying and controlling battleships? I've read the description and says nothing about that... if not, wich "battle ship control mod" it's recommended to use WITH the crossfire?
Thanks for the answer

1. In the vanilla game, just for effect, in Hostile Univers, clues you need to find other systems.

2. Either method can work, the board can contain several factions missions though.

I remember when I played the SP campaign last time there were a couple of times that "I heard a rumour" was actually useful - like a reference to a wreck. The other 98% were just background.

The missions on the "job menu" and those given you by individuals will be different. It's a good idea to check the menu first to see how much is being paid. Then if someone offers you a mission for less money, you can turn it down and go back to the menu missions and do one of them.

All right, thanks for the answers. I've asked it because in the very beginning of the game (little after you help King to cath a guy) a man talked to me about his scape, then, over two missions later, Juni talks about it as well! So I was wondering what shoul happen if I was in the prision at the supossed "scape" moment.. "good to know", as Trent says, that many of those rumors are just "decorative", I don't wanna cross three systems and see that it was just a "empty" rumor. The Hostile universe it's downloaded and waiting to me to complete the original story to try it, there's any incompatibility with crossfire 1.6? I would like to test it with the completed game, just to don't loose my pilot profile with all his stuff...

Another question: The only way to get the complete reputation bar full (to the left or to the right) it's joinin a faction, isn't it? I mean, if you join "Bounty Hunters", it's reputation bar will get to the maximun, but if you join some of the pirate factions the police/security factions will hate you, isn't it? (It could be cool some kind of mod wich let you kill some ships "hidden", I'm not talking about cloaking, just make some kind of "perfect crime": You attack a ship and them can't report to their bosses so the faction don't know that you attacked them and your reputation isn't affected..)

Finally, I have to admit that it's a pleasure find websites as this, it's a very good job just for a game. Congratulations to the staff out there

You can't actually join a faction in the unmodded game. But you can be accepted by them and become "almost" a member. I remember a Corsair gal telling me that I had been "very useful" to them and they appreciated it. Then she added that if I ever crossed them, she would personally come after me herself! Nice folks, those Corsairs ... sort of like the Mafia.

@Puke- got the same message from the Outcasts- imagine that!

Sometimes, you can get info that means something - A fellow in a bar on a particular freeport telling me to stay out of a certain region, that the ------- homeworld jump hole isn't there- then saying that "I'm a dead man..."

But you have to separate the wheat from the chaff, and decide what's important. Another useful piece of info are certain trade routes that can be profitable- but be careful! I've followed several 'tips' like this, only to find myself surrounded by Unfriendly Strangers who were more than willing to 'educate' me as to why you don't go past certain points with equipment that ain't quite up to snuff...

wow, I'm realizing that the very best ideas for the game are fan made, all a point to the community!

Obvious question: Wich mod lets you join the factions, if there are only one, of course?

Uhm.. just one more question: I'm worrying about the possibilites of the unmodded game, I mean: You have the story (as the point I'm now, cool story), the reputations, the commerce, the "hidden places" where you can buy cool stuff or find the wreckages, the bar missions (wich I found little repetitive..) and... what more? There are many mods out there that had added lot of features for the game (as that of the npc wingman... when on single player??), but the unmodded game, as I can see now, lacks of many possibilities.. I'm skipping anything on the game, or when I finish the story, I better install mods to have a wider range of possibilites?

This can't be said enough...
Finish the Storyline First- you will be missing something noteworthy if you don't.

Then, take the time to explore all the places that the storyline doesn't take you in the vanilla game. Do a little trading- a good way to build up a nice chunk of change - and find the best routes you can. Get a VHF and wander around the Borderworlds for a while, because you'll never know what you can find if you take the time to look.Do the same thing in the inner systems for the same reason.Try different ways with different ships- what you can get depends on who likes you and who doesn't, so take a little time before you decide that you're bored and wanna go whack Rouges for a bit.... you might miss a nice little ship going at it the 'easy' way.

Then try one of the many good Vanilla servers out there, 'cause while you might be a god on Your copy, others online may have different ideas...

Then would be a time to try and work through all of the mods available- and with the FLMM, turning 'em on and off is dead easy.

Have fun- the game is just begining....

And, let Juni hang out for a bit in the storyline- just remember where you need to meet here when You decide it's time. You'll find she's good about that.

Uhm.. it's nice to know, but after all: I'm not bored with the game, I was pointing that are some aspects in wich the game has minor/major lacks, the more part of them implemented in a mod. Indeed, I'm having fun as a dwarf with the story, it's well developed inside all the game enviroment, and very well done by the voice actors (there aren't subtitles, isn't it? I'm spanish and my english it's not too good..). Be in mind that I get this game thinking in a wider fan of possibilities, and get a little dissapointed with the limitations of the vanilla game (huh, what's the origin of the "vanilla game" expression? ).
Well, I'm talking about game limitations, I mean, stuff as as you can't buy capital ships, get wingmen (or issue inflight orders to them), orbiting planets, joining factions, and that repetitive bar mission stuff, or even "start a business" in a station/planet.
Maybe the worst of the game it's the "bar missions", as long as you need lot of cash to run through some of the story missions (in one I had to sell the cruise disruptor missiles to buy shields, as I ran out of money :p), you have to do lot of missions (or do some commerce, that in the story it's quite limited as you can't get to many systems, and I'm not talking about those wich the story don't take you, i think you know what I'm talking about ), but well, it's just my opinion :p

And over the exploration tips.. well I had in mind do that, but no with the "vanilla" game, just to be able to do more things and have more reasons to go to the system "x" just to see what the game has for me (Reason why I liked the Hostile Universe mod idea).

<< what's the origin of the "vanilla game" expression? >>

From vanilla ice cream. Comes just as it is, with nothing fancy added to it (chocolate, cherries, bananas or whatever).

I'm trying to remember if there is a Spanish language version of FL. I know there is a German one and I think a Japanese one. Since the Hispania was one of the sleeper ships, it seems like there should be a Spanish language version to go along with the Bretonia/Liberty, Kusari and Rheinland versions.

Oh, thanks for the answer to the vanilla thing :p
As long as I know, there aren't a spanish version of freelancer, this it's the current freelancer distributor in spain . As you can see (if you know a little spanish) the game it's in english, so no spanish version (at least, in spain, maybe in south america..)
