okey...so i bought this game...and i like this game but i hate this game. its sucha good game but i think its a bit too hard. (keep in mind imnew to this and right now im in the new london sector being chased by everyone) I dont like the cruise disruptors. They are not good. i mean if i wanna run let me run gosh darn. anyway i bought some legionair ship and its such a skinny thing andits the best ship i could find right now. i Dont understand how im suppose to earn money (credits) if i spend all i earn on new sheild gizmos. I mean those sheild thingies are expensive if u need like twenty. and so now im sitting on New london afraid for the worst and scured to get off the planet. i swear im never guna meet Juni at this rate. SOo...basi cally i need adive and help.

thanks Nick

Welcome to TLR. It just takes time to make money. A slow way is, to mine, another is to run missins for the planet, see the bar. Give it time, and you will get good at survieing.

Don't worry, Blue Delta Finch, you were not alone.

I felt the same way when I started Freelancer after geting it during Christmas. I had a hell of the time too since I haven't played a sim like this in ages.

As it is, I haven't even finished my FIRST game yet. I just made it to Kusari space. If you are following the main story line, you'll know soon enough where that is.

Hang in there, buddy, and don't jettison cargo just yet. You'll be alright.

If you think it's hopeless, start a new game. Then, make sure to loot the Flint in the New York system (check www.arbiter.de for location), and sell the Cardamine on Manhattan for an instant $30,000.

Anyway. There's an easy trick to evading cruise disruptors and getting away from pursuers. Kill your engines with the Z key, then use a brief burst of your thruster. You'll continue to move at thruster speed. Now, turn around to face your enemies. You'll still be travelling in the same direction (which is now backwards from your POV), but your enemies will scatter and you will gradually open up a gap between you and them. Once they disappear from your scope at 2.5K, just turn around and engage cruise. Job done.

Don't worry if you're having trouble - Freelancer fulfils the old cliché: easy to learn, tough to master. Experiment with using your thruster in short bursts in combat to reduce getting hit and thus reduce your spending on batteries.

Darkstone... and WHERE were you with that information when I was surrounded by enemies and everytime I hit my cruise engines, I get hit with a "Missile Impact!" warning followed immediately by cruise engines shutdown which in turn is usually followed by the metallic sound of my armor melting away from the heavy pounding, and then ultimately followed by a beautiful, colorful, blossoming expansion of hot gasses and molten metal as my ship blows up into smithereens????

Interesting trick though. I'll have to try that one.

Taking missions is a good way to earn money - not from the reward though....its once you get to a level, like level 6 or 7 or something. Then, if you kill really low level ships like lvl 1 guys, you maybe able to pick up their guns, cargo, nano bots etc. Can make some money that way.
My fav trade route when I first played nearly two years ago, was to do engine comps from Houston, Texas - to Planet LA in California system. High risk in a freighter due to the pirates, but about 300 credits pure profit per run. Then Optical chips on the return

Well snuffel thanks for the reply (and everyone else too) andi am in kusari space right now. It wastough and those Reinland ship with those green blasters almost did me in. I'm cruising in a fish type ship now..its a bretonian ship..a heavy fighter?...its still a fish but its not bad. About those cruise disruptors.. for now ive only been hit with them by the mollys and the corsairs....in Leeds and New London..but not by any other ships or any other sectors. OHh and that evasion tactic given by DarkSTONE.....i learned it in the trial version lol..when i was learning to fly but i never knew it could be used to evade C disruptors..never the less its hard to do and right now my major tactic is when i see an enemy...preferably around 1200 away..then i cut Cruise engins and reverse throttel ..the X button and i fire at thm like a tank....or when they start to fire i dive and get them in the belly.

AnYwaYY...i am really curious to whoo blew up that battelship right b4 i entereed kusari space....i positively did not see any torpedos going at it...maybe im wrong.

so just one last thing since im new in kusari...what should i look out for?

A way to proceed from a basically neutral stance with all factions is to hack you're rep on the junker station close to Manhattan, Rochester Ithink. It's very expensive, 65,000ish, but well worth it if you're careful not to piss anybody off. Just make sure you're hacking you're rep with the Junkers, and you'll end up with only the enemies the story prescribes and only during story missions for a while.

Also, remember that you don't have to go dashing off as soon as Juni calls.

Freelancer is mostly about killing stuff so running scared everytime you see red dots on your screen doesnt help. Save your game and go kick Bounty Hunters,Liberty Corp cargo ships , or just hit "patrols" on your map and get on the red lines, Legionare isnt a bad ship , i bet you can kill 4 junker's ships anytime , even Mollys are not that tough.

Trading is ok when you sell loot , buying stuff is expensive. Flying just under the trade line can give you an extra option for cruise disraptors but iirc legaionare supports countermeasures you can drop 4-5 and leave battlefield if things go wrong

to liberator: but i'm in Kusari right now and the junkers already hate my rep. thers no way ican land on rochester...unless i kill like a billion Xeno ships. i think i took one bounty hunter mission against the liberty roges in Liberty..opps i didn't foreshadow what was to come.

Post Thu Jan 27, 2005 3:14 pm

to themistofelis: are you sure dropping 4-5 Counter meas things will evade cruise disruptor missles?...it didnt seem to work for me..

Rapid turns can also help evade missles. Kill bounty hunters and a couple of liberty navy, and the junkers will start to like you better.

Money is not everything, skill defines a person's true abilities.

I have a slight problem. I finally got Freelancer after playing the demo to the point where it doesnt let you do any more missions...
Anyhoo, Ive just dne the mission where you have to save Station Willard from the Rheinlanders, nd then the Valkyries (which were easy!!) And now im stuck. Im worth 51,000 odd, and yet Juni hasn't contacted me. Im level 6, and the next level requirement it says, is 24thousand odd...kinda wierd when ive got 51thousand...hmm
Anyway, when does the next mission start (I think its mission 4), cuz im bored as hell, and I want smoething better to do. Also, the wreck in the radiation field in the Texas system, how do you get it and get its diamond cargo without getting ure ship fried? Also, where is it in the little sectory thing, cuz when I go there, theres that evil damned secret station that has a habit of sencing ships after me for my blood. So that 2 things, if u can keep up with my eratic typing:-P
Cheers people!!

Wizard:

You need to make $24,000 more credits!

Also use nanobots when going for the diamonds, they are in the bottom right box.
