UV map assistance, please

I'm working on a ship from Stargate SG-1 right now, and I'd like to put a better texture on it than just plain colors (using ms3d's material buttons) so that it actually LOOKS like the ship in the series. The problem is, I have NO experience doing the UV mapping of models and this particular ship doesn't seem to lend itself too well to using any "basic" UV mappings. If anyone wants to take a quick look at the ship I'm talking about (the gate glider) you can check my freelancer page.

Any and all assistance would be appreciated- heck, I'll even credit you if you can get me a workable UV map.

I humbly suggest that you go get a copy of UVMapper, from uvmapper.com, and use it to construct the projections you want. It's very easy to use, and allows you to build all of the valid UV projections, as well as a bunch of other useful things
