Strange texture errors

Okay, hard to explain, so here is a screenshot:

Texture Error at Cockpit

While some vertices are textured and displayer correctly, most of them do have the texture, too, however much darker, almost black.

EDIT: I just found a second one. When I look at the ship at the ship dealer, the wings look just fine, however, in space they look like this.

Any possible ideas?

Sorry, I just noticed the links were messed up. I have corrected them.

Um... my first guess would be that you have a Dc defined in your Material node. Get rid of it, and the problem may go away. The second problem may be that you've welded your model improperly, and what we're looking at is a bunch of mis-welded verts. To correct this problem, turn Auto-Group off in MS3D, unweld the model, save the model, and re-export it.

Well, the glass of the cockpit has a Dc node, of course, but the outer cockpit and wing meterials don't have such a node. Or am I not getting something here?

So I tried the "unweld" solution. (However, I did not find something like "auto-group".) Nothing changed. However, it might be, because I didn't find this auto-group setting.

Now, HardCMP displays the cockpit fine, and of course HardCMP also doesn't display DcOc maps. So this could be a clue. However, the wings are not correctly displayed in HardCMP.

I'm lost.

DcOc is not a valid Material. DcDtOcOt is. Yes, it's needlessly redundant, but it's the way things work. While DcDtOc works, DcOcOt does not. Get it?

Well, I used the MAT exporter. Just checked all materials: The glass is DcDtOcOt, all other materials are DcDt.

Okay, now the cockpit looks okay in Milkshape, after I deleted some vertices on the same position as some of the cockpit's ones, however facing in the wrong direction and belonging to another group.

HardCMP doesn't show the error either. However, in the game it continues to show up.

The wings are even stranger, the parts of the wings disturted later in the game showing up a little brighter in Milkshape, and showing up completely wrong in HardCMP.

Could the texture files themselves be the problem? I am now tending to make an archive out of the ms3d file and the CMP and sending them to someone skilled to have them checken -- provided someone has time.

Manhattan_Guy,

Odd.. but I have seen it before.. It can be caused by duplicated faces..or faces underneath that are internal and close to the surface and are NOT textured.. Have you run something like lithium unwrap's optimizer over it..? it does magic things in correcting extra vertices and duplicated faces...

Failing that.. try importing your textures by hand using utfedit.

^^ What he said.

Yeah, that could definately be what's going on. Kind've a bummer to get fixed, truth be told.

I'll see to it. At the moment I am forced to do other things due to my project's timetable.
