@Darkagent:

Post a screenie or two of the untextured ships, so that we know whether they're worth it. I'm always willing to consider helping somebody out with something like this, but only if the geometry's solid.

As for not having Photoshop... um... GIMP is freeware, and has most of the features. I'm not saying it's as good, but it's free.

The only thing you won't be able to do is use the nVidia DDS plugin (at least, I don't think so- GIMP's compatibility with PS plugins is so-so). But you could get your ship skinned and then get somebody with PS to convert the textures to DDS...

Well... erm...

I can't even tell which end is the front, let alone imagine what it's supposed to look like skinned. I dunno whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, but usually that's not a good sign.

well im not done. but the fron is the pointy end. its supposed to be arodinamic. when i was making it i was looking at stelth aircraft so its got a lot of then in it. the side with the wings is the front.

I got your e-mail Darkagent and while I would like to help I think that with all the tutorials aroud you would be better off doing a little reading and giving it a go yourself.

You'll have a much greater sense of accomplishment in the end....trust me.

If you need direction to software tthen I would happy to help.

Well i got the demo verson of photoshop and im having some problumes makeing textures.
a. none of the meatle texture tuts out there look like meatle to me.
b. i suck with it
c. the glass tuts dont look like glass

after the texturing i can do the rest no problum. o well i will figer this all out i guess.

Post Wed Jul 20, 2005 8:56 pm

fine i will figer it out myself. anyone know were i can get some good looking textures. i made a glass one that look ok but i cant find out how to make a black dull meatle. how do i make things shiny or dull? any tricks for making the lines of the glass line up so they look more like glare insted of just some gay lines. also when im placing hardpoints does it make a dif how many truster mounts i got on it. will 2 make it go 2X faster? also when im placing the hardpoints does the size of the plane im puting it on make adif or will the gun just be centerd.

Well if you have two thrusters then you will go faster when you use them but the power used will go faster accordingly. Your basic speed or cruise isn't affected in anyway by having more or less thruster mounts.

If your doing the mounts, i find it easiest to create a face and copy it around the model in milkshape rotating it where needed.
Then export and bring it into hardcmp to see where the mounts are. Its a lot easier modifying the mounts than creating them in hardcmp completely.

It might be worth doing a basic model first just to get the feel for it and learn the skills. Then go back and do the model that you really want. I guarrantee if you did the original model first, you would only want to go back and do it again anyway..

well i know what im doin somewhat. i found textures on the net that i am useing. but the damn modle will not turn into a .md3. some err about frames not being selcted. any tips for this

Post Sat Jul 23, 2005 7:55 am

You are exporting out of gmax. correct?

Post Sat Jul 23, 2005 3:26 pm

When you export MD3, tell it you want Frame 1. You have to specify that- the MD3 exporter expects animation states to be buried in the model file, and doesn't assume which frames you want to export for a given state.
