** Tutorial ** - Texture Art Tutorial
I figured I should stick a quick link up in the 3D Modelling section with the rest of the tutorials for easy reference.

This tutorial covers the artistic side of skinning a model (Check other tutorials for assigning texture co-ordinates and the like), and covers the basic techniques of skinning a model in a more traditional style - Rather than using generic textures as per usual in Freelancer, it covers fully customised textures as seen in games like Quake, Halflife etc.
More time consuming, but produces more controlled results and you can pack up these techniques and take them with you to other games platforms you might model with later.
