Question: Hardpoints, Pilot Models and 3DB Objects.

In short "Has anyone worked out a method of creating new Hardpoint models (Turrets, Guns, Rockets, Shields, Whatever) and custom Pilot models yet? (As in the guys who sit in the cockpit)."

I've done some work on them myself, but they seem to use 3DB objects primarily, and I can´t seem to find any reliable way of exporting or extracting the 3DB components from a CMD file. Is there a workable exporter worth noting for 3DB, and has anyone else been able to crack the answer to multiple ship parts/weapon models/pilot models?

Harrier made a ms3d file with hps and a premade pilot model. dl here

don`t know, but you could forget about HpPilot and just place the new pilot model inside the ship (add to the cmp file of the ship ..)
the easiest way .. i guess

adding the pilot and seat adds approximately 450 polys to the mesh, plus the pilot is always in the ship, dont really see the point if a simple hardpoint can do it for you.. why add polys that are not needed.

On the note of the new harrier hardpoint download:

How do the mat files work for it? I place the hard points and then export the cmp, then I export the mat. I use the mat exporter for milkshape. It asks me for all the textures that are created for the pre-built hardpoints and pilot. You guys already know that you have to match the files up so the mat works and knows what textures you are using. However, I don't have the textures on my computer for the new materials in milkshape that come with the pre-built hardpoints. Do I have to write a custom mat file by hand for this or can I just delete all the materials that are added by the hardpoint mod. On another note, thanks harrier for the hardpoint mod, outside of the texture thing, my life is so much easier now. Especially since I can texture and then add the hardpoints and still keep their no materials.

Dark*Paladin,

Ahh I see what you mean, my bad.... i used an existing ship file deleted the ship but forgot the materails, I left the materials in the file tho they really do nothing.. simply delete them.

Hardpoints have no material assigned, if you assign materials to hardpoints they are visible in game, so should this happen in your ms3d file, select the hardpoints, create a new material assign that to the textured hardpoints, then delete the material. Result no material assigned.

Sorry about that.

Thanks,

One other question, Do you need a texture for the pilot chair and pilot? I just deleted the textures in the material list on milkshape, but I don't know if I need a material for the pilot. Again thanks for that mod, it made my life a lot easier with ship texturing.

Ok, nevermind, you do need textures for pilot and chair, sorry for asking. Was testing the mod out on my computer, and I found out my ship does not appear in the game. As in all, the body isn't there, and you just see a bunch of guns. I think there is a forum topic for that problem.
