um... i created a ship and all that... did everything you said to.. and i dont get a textured ship... all i get is a ball of guns and a flaming engine.

im sure all of you have run into this problem at some point... how do i fix it?

maybe I should add a post-modding checklist and fyi.
Ok, check to see that you have the LODranges set right and that your mat is error free (MIP0 misspelling is common)

man... none of the tutorials said nothing about setting LODranges. so i have no idea what your talkin about.

oh crap I made a big mistake. And all this time I thought I had mentioned LODs in the tut. Lemme add that now...

In designing a new ship, do you have to use milkshape, or can you use another 3d pgm, I ask this because as I read it, you can draw using any 3d but then must import it to MS and then texture it there, then export via cmp. I use blender 3d to draw (or at least try to draw) but can not get MS to work on my puter keeps saying no opengl loaded see Mesa 3.x, have installed OpenGL to no avail.

Any info in this would be nice as I am attempting to design a couple new ships as well as an entire system.

Can someone please tell me there are .cmp importer and exporter plug-ins directly for LightWave. I have used Milkshape 1.6.6 and 1.7.0 and am not impressed at all. I have redone my model so many times just so it won't crash Milkshape or the cmp exporter plug-in. I have even coverted it to other formats like AutoCAD and SoftImage and imported them into MS. No luck. The LWO importer will import a LightWave object as long as it is as simple as possible, but will not allow you to texture the object no matter how you try to manipulate it. I have used LightWave 5.6, 6.0, 7.0 and the results are the same. I hope there is a better alternative to the crash-happy program. Thanks for any help.

Is it normal that when I try to load a .dds texture in MS I get a "error downloading texture!" message? I mean, should MS be able to use .dds tex or not?

Also, I know it's quite off the subject of this thread, but do anybody know how to create an icon for the ship dealer, or where I can find a tutorial?

I've finished my first ship, exported it with Milkshape, created a .mat file that looks good, made a script for FLMM with all the stuff for shiparch.ini and all, but in the game, the ship is like invisible ! The hardpoints seem to work as all the weapons, lights, engine, etc. are there. Actually, everything work except that it's invisible.

I've tried what had been said earlier in this thread, but it still don't work. HELP !

I have a problem with the ship I am trying to test.

I have the .mat and the .cmp

I have also edited the shiparch file, but how do I replace the original shiparch file with my .ini version of shiparch??

Where do I put it and in what format?

nazbit : The best way to put your ship in FL is to make a mod for FLMM. If you're interested in modding FL you should have got it.
There's a "How to" file in your FLMM directory which explains how to make your mod. It's also interesting to study the scripts of other ship packs (there are loads to download in this site)

maper : I think you could use most of the 3d programs as long as you can export your model in a format MS can understand. Also you should be able to texture it in your favorite 3d prog (I used 3ds max). For your OpenGL problem,I can't help you as I don't know anything about this.

Molov : Making a Dodo for FL is a fun idea but I really don't know how to extract the model from the game.

HI ummmmm........... i was wondering if any real cool modders out there would help me create a ship, i mean a partner in making one, a person i can go to if i dont know what to do or something. It would be cool if caid would help because he specializes in military ships. Porsche would be another great help too, since i beat the game with his jedi t-fighter but caid would be easier at handling this type of ship. Now i have done extense searches and i have found a way to get this ship into freelancer. It is a vehicle from metal gear solid 2 the game. It is the harrier jet . hence my name is SOLID SNAKE. I have the game and i have a cd player and a dvd player on my computer. i insert the disc into one of the drives, then i find the ship on the disc, then i just save it on my computer. BOOM! instant ability to put the ship into the game, or give someone a good idea of how to get it in the game. That is why i ask for CAID's help because he is really good at making military jets, which i am now using his SU-35 which has like 13 guns, all i like to use is the blood dragons weapons because i am obsessed with dragons ever since i found out my chinese new year symbol thingy.
