Project Notes and Scratchboard

Because the Feedback thread is mainly for bug reporting and mod-tweaking, we kind of need a fresh new place to discuss the various side projects which are in development.

Right now, textures are being created, the Gemini Sector is being coded, ship models, space station models, gameplay balance, and just about everything else is quietly worked on by dedicated fans. Hopefully this thread will give us a place to get organized so we can more easily communicate with one another.

I wonder how this bases look like...

Because we will end up with various different texture styles, which does not improve the overall quality of the game.

Tolwyn, I voiced the same concern to Bob McDob last week.

When we have all these models and all these textures.. it will be kinda goofy seeing a variance of texture map quality and style. For the Perry Naval Base, and the Galaxy textures I did, I tried my best to make it look FreeLancer-ish.

I can't say the same for the other textures made by others.

Edit: If Blackmane, or this model will be in the mod, and if other textures will resemble this.. then I should make a few more in addition to the ones I have so that whoever wallpapers the mesh will be able to wingcommanderize it.

For the most part, the Faction, Ships, Weapons, etc have the correct infocards, now.

As to the Gemini Sector, until I can eliminate all of the bugs in the main portion of the mod, I can't proceed.

Creating the Gemini Sector is very easy, as is setting up the DLL(s).
It's find the bugs that's so time consuming.
(and so frustrating)

I would like to see a non-story version of the mod.. open sandbox play.. but of course that's just me. Such a mod would not require the extensive bug-hunt like that we are after-- or am I wrong?

ivx, we need to get Gemini to work at any level before we tweak in the no-mission end of things. once we get the sector working we should be able to throw on an openSP version of things without too many other tweaks. hopefully

There is a program called OpenSP that can be used to remove the missions.
(Just need to delete the various mission subfolders, first.)
AND...
as is...
The MOD is already opensp!!!
You only need to play the missions IF you want to.
About 95% of those stating a preference actually prefer having the missions.
AND...
Since Privateer was basically an opensp game...
with a few missions thrown in...
I've set up the mod like that.

And getting the basic mod working right is the number 1 priority.
The rest is gravy.
And please stop harping on the Gemini Sector...
It's getting annoying!!

Ok ok warzog, didn't mean to rub you raw with that gemini sector thing.

Have you checked out the music done by that WC Rock and Roll musician? It would be great to work that into the mod, it definitely has my vote!

warzog, fl the way youve set it is pretty much open, but there are places you cant get jobs and sometimes in the places you can get jobs when you run enough faction missions the game forces you to take a story mission. havent been able to figure out why it does that.

vxoccvlta: what you see is wc3 styled naval base. Since the game takes place directly after wc3 it is the best to keep this blue grey paint job...

I need to add an edited mbases.ini to get random missions to work prior to starting the story.
Before I do, I need to get all of the bugs out, first.
The last time I tried it, I got all kinds of problems.
It's in the same category as the Gemini Sector.
Just waiting to get rid of the other bugs.

Have not fully checked yet but having ALL holes & gated operational would be nice.

warzog, mail me a list of the bugs your having with gemini and mbases and ill see what i can do on my end, since there seems to be really sparse pickings now that all our ships are pretty much perfect

I uploaded the Perry model and stuff to the FTP, folder Perry. I hope someone figures out how to get it to work, because it keeps crashing for me :
