Two other important things to reduce eye strain in any game
#1) Make sure there are other lights on in the room, not just your monitor. If the only source of light is your monitor and the intensity of light is frequently changing, your pupils must quickly constrict/dilate in response to what is on screen. Overtime, these rapids fluctuations begin to cause eye pain/strain.
#2) Make sure you're not sitting too close to your monitor. When looking at something up close your pupils constrict and your eyes begin to cross. This is called accomodation. (You can try this at home with your friends!) If you continue to look at something close-up for an extenced period of time, you will likely begin to have eye pain or develop a headache.
Another consideration is that you have migraines or some other headache syndrome, not actually eye strain.
Also, people who have "eye strain" actually just need glasses, contacts, corrective lenses, etc. to correct a refractive error.
In the end, you shouldn't have to let something as silly as eye strain keep you from enjoying freelancer for hours...and hours...and hours...
