A number of mods I try makes a mess of my FL installation. I install the game, patches etc, use mods thru FLMM without hassles most of the time but one or two of the bigger ones will break something during installation and then I suddenly get prompts to insert the game CD when trying to start a game. 99% of the time I don't get this problem, it's just a few of the bigger mods that cause this. These mods include mods based/using monkey universe and some others that change large numbers of things in the game.

Any idea what's causing this?

Are you trying to use the No-CD hack? If your are, its illegal and you are indeed suppose to use the disk to play the game.

I'm not entirely following what you are doing but I can tell you this.

Sometimes when you deactivate a mod with the mod manager if the mod has its own dll file it don't get removed and once in a while not all the backup files get put back or some are left in the folders... Usually this causes Freelancer to crash when you try to start a game after activating a new mod...

If you don't know which file or files get left behind... the thing I do is delete the Freelancer folder and my saved game files and then reinstall Freelancer...

Problem fixed...
