The MP Problem (In Full)

Ok, my problem...

1. Open Freelancer up, click "Multiplayer"
2. "Status: Connected to Global server, Internet games available", server list loads up
3. Click on a server that is responding (ping & # of players are being displayed)
4. Message box pops up after about 2-4 seconds: The requested operation is taking to long, etc. then, message about server could be down or Internet problems.
5. Try another server, message box again (same for every server)
6. Get frustrated, exit out of Freelancer
7. Internet Explorer won't open web pages, even though cable modem says it's connected to the Internet.
8. Must turn off computer, unplug modem, plug modem back in, and turn on computer back on to get Internet to work.
9. Lather, Rinse, And Repeat

I know i'm not having internet problems, as I contacted my ISP and had them ping me (with good results).

I have also reinstalled DX9 (from the CD) with no change.

I have the same problem. I can see servers just fine but when I try to connect, I always get the "It's taking too long" message, and a minute or two later it says it failed. To test, I tried doing this on my own computer by hosting a server, and then trying to connect to it (it showed in the LAN server list just fine). Same timeout. I tried disabling my firewall to see if I had some sort of rule conflict, and it still did it. This doesn't make any sense. I know my DirectPlay8 components are working just fine so that isn't the problem. This game has just been one problem after another so far. I get one problem fixed, and another one presents itself, preventing me from playing. I bought this game ONLY for it's multiplayer aspect too, which has me quite frustrated....

I'm getting the same problem. It started right after I tried out a mod on a local LAN server. I've deactivated the mod, but this problem still persists! I've tried deleting everything in the My Games/Freelancer directory, but that didn't do a thing .

Anyone fix this problem yet? It's pretty hard making a mod manager when I can't even test out mods

Actually, I seemed to have fixed it by installing DirectX 9. Seems the newer DirectPlay components are necessary and that seems to have been the problem for me. It works fine now, and I've been playing it with my cousin most of the day.

The MP part of Freelancer REQUIRES DX9 to play MP. MP needs to newest DirectPlay drivers. Try installing DX9.

I installed it just days after it came out
I could join any server before I tried the mod, and now I can only join internet servers. When I try to join a LAN server, is when that problem happens. It also says that I've joined that LAN server before, even though I've deleted everything in the My Games/Freelancer folder.
