Hmm, this is an interesting one. It could be your card because, as you may be aware, FL does not like a number of nV cards. Well, here are some additional suggestions;
-"No CD" patch
-The old sound fix.
-Install the SDK.
-Try reducing and/or disabling hardware acceleration on your graphics and sound cards.
That'll do for a start .

Hello again and thanks to everyone that has tried to help me.
OK, tried the "no cd" files, now loads a bit further before coming up with the "Freelancer not loading properly do you want to send an error report?".
Tried the sound fix and have installed the SDK files with no success.
As to graphics/sound card, I am not 100% sure what all the features are on my graphics card (ie in the advanced section). Is there a good website that will give me the definitions and a brief run down on what they actually do?
In the meantime I have tried turning everything off and still cant get FL to load.

There are heaps of sites that deal with ATI cards (some of which I frequent), and almost as many that deal with nV cards. Unfortunately, I cannot reccommend any nV sites as I own an ATI card. If you would like me to explain something just ask, as long as you don't ask about how useful nv's "C for Graphics" is . In any case, the hardware accelreration settings are not in the display properties, but can be found by typing "dxdiag" in the "Run" dialog box, and clicking on the "Display" and "Sound" tabs. You'll see the options when you get there.
Hello again, and again a very big thank you to all who have helped. Unfortunately it would appear that I am a raving lunatic and should be kept well away from myself.
Completely forgot that when I redid my HD recently I moved the "My Documents" folder to the D partition, so when I checked for saved games I looked in the C partition........(can you guess where this is going)........went back on last night and was doing a tidyup and low and behold I came accross the FL save game folder. Renamed it and tried to load FL...and guess what...it worked DOH DOH DOH DOH etc
Utmost apologies to everyone for wasting your time with something that should have been fixed weeks ago. Now all I need to do is try all these wonderful looking new mods that have come out since I stopped playing FL last time.
