It is not the card.......I have the fx 5900 as well and NEVER an issue.
Completely uninstall the card drivers from add/remove programs. Then go to device mgr and uninstall the card. Then go look for any signs of driver files out there anywhere on your drive and delete. See if you can also find DX 9b and uninstall it as well
Shut the computer off. Not restart. Pull the power plug and hold down you power button for 30 seconds. Afterwards plug the power back in.
Fire the computer up and let it find and install the card as necessary. Reboot if it asks you to
Go to microsofts site and download and install DX 9b. Reboot.
Go to your Motherboards manufacturers site and download the AGP drivers as well as the the chipset drivers for your board and install.
Go to the manufacturer of your video card. NOT Nvidia YOUR manufacturer! and download and install the latest driver for you card. All the time rebooting as necessary!
Finally go into the advanced settings of your card and check on the antialaising, antistrobic filtering, hardware acceleration, and image quality and try adjusting them.
This should fix everything.......also if you do not have at least 512MB ram and a 2.4Ghz 800 FSB proc this card is probably a total waste of your cash.
Finally check the AGP apture sixe in your bios. It should be at least 64MB. (Actually I have had issues making it anything else but that.)
