I recently have been problems playing freelancer online, see topic "online...". I apparently have a firewall activated. How do I deactivate this? i have tried several times and it never worked. HELP!!!
What kind of firewall? Are you referring to Windows XP's built-in "firewall"? I'll assume that that is what you are referring to. To disable what MS laughingly term a "firewall", go to "Network Connections", right-click on your connection; eg. LAN, Cable, Modem, etc, and select "Properties". Go to the "Advanced" tab, and turn off the firewall.
Are you running any mods? If so, use the "Restore Backups" option in the "Tools" menu. If it still doesn't work, try reinstalling FL as some files may have become corrupted. Finally, if it still doesn't work, it could be a driver issue. What kind of network card do you have, and how old is the driver?
You meen it cud be my video card drivers??? ah ****. I have an old driver for my vid card. Becayse the windows update cant find any of the new ones...Can you help me find some? My OS is windows xp, and my vid card is a rage 128 pro ultra. PLEESE HELP!!!
Edit: ah u meen my modem??? I have no idea how to check that but I know it need updating. Luckily for me the modem drivers can be found through windows update ^_^.

The Rage 128 Pro was made by ATI, and you can download the drivers at ATI.com. Oh fine, here's a direct link . The only problem is that these drivers are dated October, 2001. They have obviously stopped support for that particular card.
I do not know whether or not you can play FL using a modem, as it specifies ADSL, LAN, or cable in the readme file. The fact that you are trying to connect though a modem could be the problem. Make sure that you have the latest version of DirectX (9.0b), as this can cause a number of errors.

Call Microsoft............they MIGHT help. (chuckling)
Also, if you use DSL or Cable Modem, some of the modems have built in Firewalls. If you are not sure, contact your ISP provider for more information. I have a friend that had trouble conecting with a DSL modem, and found out when he called the company that there was a built in firewall, but they helped him open the right ports and everything worked.

It is not the firewall, i am pretty sure now. I have recently been able to play AoW online, so either aow doesnt require some of the ports FL does, or its drivers. *note i was able to connect to fl before my computer hardrive went byby! and i had to replace*
Edit, that direct link u gave to me to get the drivers, when i tried to install it said it wasnt compatible with the display adapters! HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

Sorry about that. They SHOULD be the right drivers. Well, use this link, and select that latest drivers for your graphics card. See if you have the same problem after installing the drivers.
