FL crash in Mission 01b (dxdiag freeze)?

I recently installed Freelancers and ran into a host fo problems.

To begin with, the audio was screwed up, but using the fix already posted for teh Fraunhofer codec fix thingy solved that problem.

Next, FL would freeze shortly into Mission 01a. I would fly aroudn a bit, shoot things, would last abotu a mintue (always the same length), then FL would crash to desktop, and I would have to ctrl+alt+del Freelancer and try again. However, reducing my Audio Acceleration on my soundcard to the lowest settign allowed me to complete Mission 01a.

The problem I am stuck on now is after jumping through the trade route lane to meet up with the transport for 01b, Fatelords crashes to desktop after King finishes his spiel and hails the transport I beleive I am supposed to escort, the game crashes every time at about the spot I beleive the transport starts to reply.

The weird thing is after Freelancer freezes and goes to desktop (Freelancer icon still in taskbar), and I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, the end task window pops up, and of all things DxDiag is the onyl thing listed as "Not Responding". No, I did not have dxdiag open before runnign the game, and I even tried again after freshly restarting the computer, with no programs running at all, same deal dxdiag was not responding when FL crashed.

I looked aroudn and searched the boards, didn't see a solution yet.

Here are my details:

Full Version of Freelancers(yes, its a legal copy of it lol)
DirectX 9.0b
Windows 98
800mhz Pentium 3
32MB nVidia TNT2 M64
512 MB of RAM
Creative Sound Blaster AudioPCI 64V (WMD)

Two things I thoguth may be causing a problem were either my video card or my sound card. The sound card first of all, doesn't have an updated driver for it that I could find since August, 2000. And I know I don't have the very very latest drivers for my nVidia viceo card (although they are pretty recent). Shortly after installing the very latest drivers from the nVidia website, my computer went phbbt, and Windows would always fail to load due to a Windows Protection Error, and the onyl thing that fixed it was loading Windows in safe mode, uninstalling hte new drivers, and reinstalling the ones I had before.

Given all that, anyone have an idea? =)

Hrm, seems liek I managed to solve this problem last night. Did a full reinstall of files, after that game, seemed to run like clockwork, haven't had any slowdowns or crashes since =)
