Suggestion for Standardization

One of the biggest issues between mods is the amount of different information between them. We've got mods with new ships, new systems, new stations, new planets, new factions...etc, etc, etc.
This is a long shot suggestion since many people have their own ideas about things.
To make things more compatable in the future..
I would suggest an open library here that lists all important information.
This would be a list of all the items that sport an ids number. Since each number referrences a specific item or text..a "universal" "library" would be benificial that everyone could add to and also refer to when creating something new.
ids_names
ids_info
ids_info1
ids_info2
ids_info3

This idea is so if somebody wants to add a new ship (or whatever) to a mod, they can check this library for items that are already in use. This would prevent duplicate or conflicting entries.
Might I also suggest a library that includes all dll files for reference OR perhaps a set of UNIVERSAL .dll files that everyone can use in conjunction with the library of ids information?

Quantity of new items is a problem. When there are hundreds, or even thousands, new objects of different kind with ids numbers added by large mods, creating such library is hardly possible.

The idea itself might be useful for certain purposes, but I cannot start thinking how to bring it to life. Automated extraction of names and descriptions from DLL files... well, theoretically this is possible, but you still need to find corresponding entry in the ini files.

Nice idea, but I myself do not think it would. A lot of mods have there own custom DLL's which will have differen IDS_ numbers based on number of custom DLL's and such.

Also, there are mnods out there that nobody should be modifying for there own needs as they are intended on only for sue on a particular server.

This is the beaty of modding. You are able to make an attempt at what you think the game should have or should be. A total conversion mod would make what you suggest really difficult to share like this. The mod makers I would hope are already tracking this information for there mod as it makes life easier for the mod team.

Requiem: A Total FL Conversion Mod .

The idea here is even though there are a lot of mods out there, this is not to take away from them. What this idea is leading to is a "just in case" scenario
if people want to pool their resources together and make that "One Big Mod" .
(A community thing)

By the way, has anybody ever found out what the limits are? (besides overstuffing systems).. such as how many ships, weapons, NPC, planets, stations..etc, etc this game can actually handle? I mean, has anyone ever really run out of "space" ? (that could be the one limiting factor)

It's just an insight. That could lead to a MMORPG we've mentioned before.
I just happen to believe it could be done.
I know some things are not quite possible to do, such as planetary/base walking and interaction. (like you would see in "Universal Combat" or "Battle Cruiser"
on-line)
From what I've been reading about that..it's been out long before Freelancer and
has been undergoing an evolutionary process over the years. It still has a stout
following.
